Good luck, Jeff, and here’s hoping that you give all those nasty critters and their cousins a good zing and zap with not too much down time for you. Best to you, Belle

Thank you all for your kind messages of warmth and condolence. My sister is truly in a better place and we are a stronger and more devoted family for having jointly cared for her with my parents for the last nine months. As I had mentioned, we are a large family (an even dozen with my late sister) and we really bonded and consoled eachother and my parents over the last week. We shared our memories and love for our sister and most of all our relief at her deliverance from pain and agony. Thanks again, Belle

Irene, I was so sorry to read of your mother’s passing and wish you much strength and sympathy. May you find comfort and solace to cope with this huge huge loss. I read once, that as long as we have our mothers, we are children and when we lose her, even well into adulthood, we are orphaned. I thought then and now that that’s so true. YES do go on with the scheduled resection. You feel depleted, and you are! But you are strong and young and otherwise healthy and those are factors that weigh heavily in your favor in your fight. Don’t delay. It gives those nasty cc creatures time to explore and find cousins and friends. :) Best wishes and you can do it and we’re all rooting for you, Belle

Happy to hear you up and running and all full of spunk and punch. Hope you continue with clear scans and painfree (too much to ask?? ok less painful) days. Belle

With my sister, the itching was the first sign of bile not flowing well. Check the br….Hope it all turns out just fine, Belle

Marions, what is your email address? I don’t know it and would like to hear what your experiences were since they seem to mirror quite closely to what we are having now. Thanx, Belle

Thank you all for posting back. Jeff, the drs are giving her iv drugs to dry up her secretions, to stop the incessant vomitting and the liquids they give her actually make her more comfortable since she is horribly thirsty. Yes, she has ice chips and mouth swabs but the blockage is so large and high up that she vomits after two or three swabs. She is on high doses of hydromorphone which is incidentally the ONLY drug that she reacts well to, so…that helps a bit. I have told you that we are a very large family and I guess we all want to have some sort of inkling of when…what… how will we know…and the answer always is we don’t really know and as Jeff says, we know she will be Home soon and I just wish it could be with much less suffering. Thank you all, Belle.

I guess another short update is in order. Things have been very hectic on my end and although I check up on the site from time to time, I don’t post so often, so thank you to all of you for your interest and heart. My sister is slowly, ebbing. While my parents have elected to continue hydrating her (emotional as well as religious concerns) she has not eaten or drank (gr??) in 4-5 weeks. She was able to go off the bed until this week, but today she tried to go on her own to the washroom and fell. The drugs for the nausea are only partially working as her tumors are now causing much pressure in the stomach and cause sort of projectile vomitting. She sleeps much and is quite listless. A friend of hers from NY came to visit her and she smiled for the first time in weeks. So my dear friends, it is just time…. But on a happier note, I became a grandma this week. My sister was so looking forward to becoming a great aunt…She knows of her little nephew but couldn’t join us for the celebrations. We’ll keep in touch, Belle

Barbara Ann, so sorry for you and your family. My sister is also deteriorating and nausea and vomitting are her constant symptoms. Has your dad been on regular anti nausea drugs like zoufran? For my sister, the only relief she has had was with cesamet (marijuana based drug) and even that was only partial. The nausea and vomitting is very had to deal with and although it doesn’t seem like classical pain, it is very debilitating. Best of luck to you all, Belle

Hi Irene. My sister had to have her bra (always even slept with one!!) so she wore those barely there by maidenform regular or sports bras and that was good because they were soft and didn’t irritate. “Aunt Polly” as she is known in our family was a real nuisance. My mother was busy with my sister a few times in the hospital and now, even when she is in such decline, aunt polly still insists on visiting… on a more serious note, as the liver deteriorates, my sister is experiencing much clotting, not unsimilar to what one passes after childbirth. The dr. says, the liver produces some clotting factors as well as all the other good stuff and the period is affected my the liver malfunction. In anycase, hope it all goes really well for you and this was helpful. Belle.

Good luck to you, Irene and I hope it all works out perfectly. In retrospect, we did not prepare for the possibility that my sister would be opened up and then told that the resection was after all, impossible. With all the detailed imaging and testing, still (if you read the postings on this and other boards) there is a signifigant # of aborted surgeries. We were totally unprepared for anything other than a perfect outcome. I wish wish wish that for you! But mentally make (brackets) of (what if) Best wishes, Belle.

vk933, you are in Canada. You have the benefit of universal health care but its deficiencies as well. If the drs. feel (are you with Dr. Moore??) that there’s only a bit of benefit in treatment, they’ll delay you with a runaround and all that stuff. You have to be quite agressive in advocating for yourself. My sister is being cared for (palliative care from princess margaret and mount sinai–they’re great and you shouldn’t need them at all) in toronto so I’m a bit familiar with the set up there.

Hello to you all. My sister was quite overweight as well. Like many mentally challenged adults, food was one of her comforts and joys. She has lost close to 50 lbs. Her cancer however is no lazy ass cancer. More like hyper and all over the place Ha! as Jeff is wont to say. I think, reading back all the posts and scratching my not so scientific head I have to say no parallels whatsover!!!

Mybdm, from my limited experience, I agree with what Christina wrote. If he has no blockage, why is his br going up? If a drain or stent were to be inserted, perhaps his numbers would go down and more treatment options would be available. Another symptom of blockage would be itching, then you’d know for sure that you’re dealing with a need for drains or stents.
    Hoping for good things, Belle

Jeff, your posts are the light of the website and truly show how its not the hand that’s dealt, but rather how you play them. Keep it up, we need your wise words and witty inspiration. Belle
