Thank you Lisa, Lainy, Darla and Heather. You’re all amazing women! Let me borrow some of your strength for a little bit.
Love, Carol
carol58SpectatorHeather, I’m so sorry to hear that Lee’s cancer has spread. Charlie was on oxaliplatin and it gave him extreme cold sensitivity. I hope having his abdomen drained will allow him some relief. Thinking of you all and keeping you in my prayers.

carol58SpectatorLainy, I’m glad it’s going well for Teddy. I’ve always been interested in Cyberknife. It does sound fascinating. Keep us posted.

carol58SpectatorKris, that’s a good plan and I’m glad you’ll be back with Hans and your doctor. Merry Christmas! Love you.

carol58SpectatorHi Darla, I’ve been keeping up with you. I hope you’re not too snowed in. Thanks you for your kind words. I agree – they are evil!
Dear Pauline, I know, the American healthcare system is so messed up. Can we come live with you? Just kidding. Charlie’s been on oral Xeloda, but had to come off because of the pneumonia. If he doesn’t fight back from this, he won’t be a candidate for the spheres procedure, but one thing at a time.
Hi Tonia, your words comfort and give me strength. I’m praying for your Grandmother to be as comfortable and peaceful as possible. You’re a blessing to her.
After much chasing around and many phone calls today to Charlie’s oncologist and his regular doctor, we have an appt. in the morning at 8 a.m. Will hopefully be able to sort some of this out. Pneumonia, jaundice, does he need a stent, bad indigestion – I have lots of questions I’ll try to get answered and I’ll update when I can. They might want him to be admitted to the hospital to try to get this pneumonia under control??
Wish I could hug all of you in person! Thank you.

carol58SpectatorDear Sophie, all you’re dealing with and you reach out to me. We can always lean and rely on each other. I hope you get some relief soon and get your questions answered. Thank you Karen, Lainy and Marion! Heartless about sums it up Karen. Yes, there’s still hope Marion. My concern is Charlie’s health deteriorating with the pneumonia. But we won’t give up. Lainy, you give me strength. Thank you all for the prayers!

carol58SpectatorTess, I don’t want to throw any more confusion into the mix. Just wanted to relate Charlie’s story. Charlie, like your Dad has intrahepatic, diagnosed 5/07. He was told 3 to 6 months, no surgery, just chemo. Went for 2nd and 3rd opinions and a surgeon at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC performed a liver resection in 11/07 removing over half of his liver. Clean margins, everything looked very positive. Charlie just happens to be one of those people (no reason) that tumors came back pretty quickly. I wish you luck in your research. Let me know if I can help in any way. Best to you and your family.

December 14, 2008 at 4:04 pm in reply to: Radiofrequency Ablation is in the cards for Gale918 #24048carol58SpectatorI’m so sorry Gale. When first diagnosed, after researching, we had this whole big list of possibilities. In our case, BC won’t even pay about half of them. So insurance is really limiting quality of life. I wish something could be done about insurance companies. Keep fighting.

carol58SpectatorIn our experience, Gemzar stopped working, but it’s such an individual thing. Charlie had it for 14 weeks. For him, it only kept the tumors from growing. Charlie, like Jeff also had IMRT 3-D radiation and more chemo. There are more things to try. Don’t give up. Best wishes and keep us updated.

carol58SpectatorKris, I didn’t know you were still in SC. I’m so sorry you’re having such a rough time. Go ahead and whine and complain all you want. I wish I had more to offer – just a big ole’ hug. Let us know what your husband finds out from your doctor.

carol58SpectatorDear Carolyn, I’m so sorry about your sister Anita. I love what you said that God loves her best. She is free from pain and worry now. Praying for God’s comfort for you and the rest of your family.

December 8, 2008 at 12:06 am in reply to: Radiofrequency Ablation is in the cards for Gale918 #24044carol58SpectatorGale, let me know if I can help out in any way. We’re still fighting the bill for the RFA Charlie had done in April this year. We were told it was approved by the doctor, had it done, then BC said it was never approved and of course, no one wants to help resolve it. They just want us to pay it, which WE ARE NOT GOING TO DO! I’ve had to get my local Senator’s office involved (Sen. Richard Burr). There is a health constituent advocate in his office and she’s been very helpful – also she’s a cancer survivor herself so she is not pleased with how we’re being treated. Maybe something will be resolved by next April. I think all the Senator’s offices have these advocates if you need to go that way. I’ve also threatened media, etc., but I don’t really want to put our family through all that. I hope it won’t come to all these extreme measures for you. I hope you get to sail right through and have it done. Wishing you the best.

carol58SpectatorDear Chris, definitely believe that Elaine is in Heaven now. What a wonderful wife to you and mother to Isabel. I’m sure she was a special woman to a lot of people. Praying God’s comfort for you and your daughter.

carol58SpectatorHey all, Charlie promised he would call the oncologist today while I was at work, but guess what, he didn’t. “Aw, it’s just a cough. They can’t do anything about it.” So I’m going to leave it for a few days and call myself if he’s still coughing. It is a dry cough. He blew leaves out in the yard for about 30 minutes. What can you do? Thanks for the ideas Jeff. Looking forward to your next “post of the week”! Take care. God Bless you too.
