Dear Irene, I’m so sorry about your Mom and so glad you were with her. You’re having to bear so much right now being newly diagnosed and the loss of your Mother. I know you are a strong person. It comes through in your writing about your Mom. You have strength you may not even be aware of yet. I would also advise to go through with the surgery if you can, but only you can make that decision. The fact that you’re young and asymptomatic I think are in your favor and the fact that you’re being offered resection at all, which is still the best chance for long term survival with cc is another plus. Please keep us updated and I know you’ll figure out what’s best for you.

Your all very welcome. Lisa, you can go to http://www.fafsa.gov.ed and fill out a long form. It will take some time and it’s a lot of information, but there are pretty good instructions and it can all be done online. All colleges have to have it in hand before they’ll consider financial aid.

Love it Jeff. I’m so glad this has turned into such a powerful resource, way of life or whatever you want to call it. Power, feeling in control, WOW. You’re just dropping baggage by the boatload. Gotta’ work on the snoring though. Take care. Charlie and I talk of you often and hold you in our hearts and prayers.

Hey Kris, YES – clear ct scans. I hope you also get some clear answers soon to the possible endometriosis. As an NC girl to another (much younger) SC girl, how’s the weather in Sweden today? We’re having one of those awesome blue sky days with low humidity. The light is starting to take on a hint of the autumn light. Take care of yourself!

Hey Jeff, is SSDI different from state to state? Last May when Charlie was diagnosed, we went immediately to the local Soc. Sec. office. We were told there would be a 6 month waiting period and we did start receiving disability checks in 12/07. 2 years from the first time we went, Charlie will be eligible for Medicare. That will be 6/09. They told us that ALS and maybe one other disease were the only ones that allowed people to get money immediately and not wait the 6 months. He went 6 months with no income and we’re paying outrageous COBRA rates for health insurance now – waiting for Medicare next year. Have I missed something?

Carrieann, so glad for the good news about your Mom. Take care of yourself.

Kris, I’ve been thinking and worrying about you, wondering what was taking so long. I’m running late for a phy. therapy appt., but just wanted you to know I’m thinking of you and praying for the very best news. I’m not trying to minimize how you feel because I’m right there with you. I just want to share that when there are delays and miscommunications at Charlie’s doctors and I get all worked up and sure something’s wrong, so far, they’ve turned out to be just human error or carelessness. So, I have gotten a little better about not driving myself and everybody else crazy. I don’t know if that will help, but I hope you get some relief soon from the pain and worry! Sending love and hugs.

You can go to http://www.wakeoncology.com for information on Dr. Kennedy. Sorry I just jumped in, but Charlie and I met with Dr. Kennedy last summer and we really liked him and the promising Theraspheres treatment. We were trying to get our insurance to cover the Theraspheres until we were told of resection surgery at UNC Hospital. I’m still wondering if Charlie can have this procedure sometime in the future.

Hi Rebecca, my husband Charlie also went through many weeks of Gemzar last summer after being diagnosed Stage IV, tumors in the liver only in 5/07. Gemzar didn’t do much for Charlie except totally wear him out after so long. Charlie is now being treated at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. He is on a 21 day cycle of IV oxaliplatin and oral Xeloda. All we know is that Charlie had to sign a bunch of papers to start with. The oncologist and his staff took complete control of getting the medications. I think we may be getting under the compassionate use program. Sorry I don’t have any more details, but that is one fight I didn’t have to take on. They took care of everything and made sure BC of Illinois – our insurance would pay for it and got it approved. Have you looked into 2nd opinions? Our first oncologist gave Charlie 3 to 6 months and pretty much just wrote him off. He’s had many procedures and he feels like he wouldn’t have made it this long if we hadn’t been aggressive seeking out doctors willing to try something. I hope this helps and wish you all the best.

    Carol
