Ted –
I am saddened to hear that Patty has left us. Through your postings, we can see what a wonderful love you had for each other as well as for our Lord. It has been inspiring to other family and patients dealing with this disease. My thoughts and prayers are with you – may your love and memories help get you through this diffiicult time.
Your story has really touched me because my dad and Patty were diagnosed/treated at the same age and both passed last month.
May God Bless You!
Dad had GBC
dadhasgbcSpectatorTed and Patty –
You are both in my thoughts and prayers. Cherish every moment. I have followed your story for some time. We’re neighbors here in Tampa. My dad went into the hospital nearly the same time as Patty with the same issues. He now has a stomach drain and the TPN but is transitioning to a feeding tube – they did not attempt surgery. His cancer has returned and is blocking his stomach/intestine with just a small space to let very limited fluids through. We’re hoping that he can come home this weekend. God Bless.
KellydadhasgbcSpectatorIs anyone who visits this site enrolled in the Davanat/5FU trial? I know there are only a handful of patients enrolled. We are considering it for my dad and was hoping to get some insight from someone who is on it.
Any info would be appreciated.
dadhasgbcSpectatorGlad to hear that your scans are clear.
I’m just curious. Do you get regular CA 19-9 tests?
My dad’s scans come back clear but his CA 19-9 is elevated 4 months post-resection. Unfortunately, the drs never had done a CA 19-9 until we finally asked about it. So, we have no baseline pre-resection or post-resection. He did have clear margins and no lymph involvement with the resection.
Just wondering if anyone else out there has this scenario.

Thanks for the info. I hope that the VA approves your claim. We’ve just started the journey of getting into the VA and are using the local Congressman to help move things along a little faster than they seem to otherwise.
I have so many questions.
Are these parasites still alive decades later?
I’m wondering because it seems there are 2 drugs that are used to treat the presence of these. Just curious if you are aware of any studies in the US (or elsewhere) on using these drugs in combination with the standard treatments to treat this cancer.
dadhasgbcSpectatorMy dad was drafted and served the army during Vietnam but he was stationed in Korea. He was diagnosed at age 61 in Dec. 2006 with gall bladder cancer that was in his bile ducts and duodenum as well. He is currently in a VA hospital with a bile duct obstruction. We are appealing to get covered by VA – he doesn’t meet the current qualifications that we put in place in 2003. I am interested in reading more on this and understanding if indeed his could be from the parasite as well.

Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear that Patty’s quality of life is good. We’re trying to get my dad to that point right now. Thanks for your prayers – you and Patty are in ours as well.
Regards,
Kelly

Did Patty every join the DAVANAT Trial at Tampa Gen? My dad has GBC – recurrance after resection. Never had chemo. Not doing well right now – CA 19-9 is 578. We have a meeting next week to see if my dad qualifies for the trial. He’s getting very tired and weaker daily so I am praying that they can do something.
Please let me know if Patty is participating in the trial and if she has had any succes.
Anyone else who may have experience with DAVANAT please let me know.
Thank you.
Kelly
dadhasgbcSpectatorMy dad was diagnosed with GBC in 12/06. Had a liver resection in March 2007.
In January, my dad’s CA 19-9 was normal as was his PET scan – yet he had malignancy. Are there other ways of detecting malignancies? I am just worried how they will find anything if it pops up somewhere else. I need to get a copy of the pre-op CAT scan to see what they says.
Since CA 19-9 isn’t always the best indicator, is there something else to use?
