I’m sorry to read of your mom’s passing DD, I hope the memories of your mom and the love you had for her will help see you through the pain.
Lainy I agree with you, unfortunately we have very limited options here. There are only 2 oncologists here, and the nearest cancer centre is 4 hours away. Unfortunately we’re basically stuck with what we get. Sad as it is.
Highsmith – her CA19-9 is up. She was down to226 in June, back up to 711 in Sept. Thats when they hit her with Chemo again, it was up to 936 3 weeks ago and this test was 1259. So its going up, but it still substancially lower then it has been – she hit a high of 14,600+ a year ago Sept. After 9 months of biweekly Gemcitabine and Oxaliplatin she came down to just over 200.
So ya its concerning of course…..I was taking this as a positive report as well, I’m hoping that the doc will have the same opinion when we see her again..
Thanks for the replys guys. Highsmith, we would have been seen by the oncologist if she was concerned about the scan. We were told that prior to this last appointment. All they say about the scan is that it looks pretty good.
I’m a little confused by it though, we’ve been told that she has no tumors but has cancer cells all through her liver and into the mouth of her pancreas. Now this report makes no mention of this at all. It looks really really good to us.
FYI: My sister’s original diagnosis was Appendial cancer adenocarcinoma then while trying to clear her to have Debulking and HIPEC treatment. Unfortunately thats when they found her liver issue – the diagnosis was Cholangiocarcinoma.I was lookin for some opinions on what you thought it looked like, since you guys have so much education on this stuff.

my sister was deemed to be in-operable so no surgical intervention. She along with the CC has Adenocarcinoma in her appendix (removed) and in her omentum. Surgery for that was in the works when her CC was found.
She spent 8 months on Gemcitabine and Oxaliplatin every second week. SHe had done far better then any of the doctors ever expected and was given a 3 month break from chemo this summer. However – now that her Ca19-9 is on the rise they have put her back on chemo.
My sister has seen significant increases in CA19-9 and CEA and they test her regularily.
Her CA 19-9 has been as high as 14,621 – it was down to 226 but has recently risen to 711.Yesterday wasn’t a very good day. It was determined that her port (which is only a couple of months old) is no good. She had to have the Gemcitabine via IV and the temporary doc would NOT allow her to have the Oxaliplatin. She has to wait to see if the Surgeon will re-install a port for her. She really does not want a pic line. The temp doc also gave her a prescription for Lyrica to try and help with her neuropathy.
We have such a terrible shortage of doctors here in our little city. We’ve just lost another Oncologist and the two remaining are dealing with a city of 80,000 people. This appointment was changed 4 times in the last two weeks. Grrrrr.
She will be having a new CT next week, and is supposed to be seen before her next chemo treatment, to find out the results and to see what the Doctor actually assigned to her case has to say about the situation.

We saw yet another different doctor today.. He’s a locum just helpin out in our cancer clinic.
My sisters feet are becoming a real problem, he suggested that since she’s been on the regiment of Gemcitabine and Oxalaplatin for 8 1/2 months, every-other week, that its time for her to take a break. That scares the crap out of her, me too. She told him she was afraid to stop and he’s suggesting that perhaps she could go on a strictly Gemcitabine protocal.
She’s to have a ct on the 15th and see the doc the 21st or 22nd. Hopefully we’ll have good news then.
Well how about this…. her platlettes were 96, at her last chemo, this week they were up to 140. Perhaps cutting back the Oxlaplatin by 20% has helped.
Now we just need to find her some relief for her feet. Any suggestions to help with the neuropathy?We went to see Cats last night, took our mother for mothers day, by the time it was over her feet were really painful.

Her regular Oncologist has left our seriously underserviced city and moved on to Research. We are left now with only two Oncologists for a city of nearly 80,000. My sister didn’t see her new doctor yesterday only a nurse for her pre-chemo screening.
Her platelets are low, might be too low for chemo this week. I guess we’ll see today. Not too happy about that but I guess after all this time on chemo it was bound to happen.
Thanks for all the encouragement guys. I wasnt’ sure if we should be excited by the news of Stable but now by reading all your responses I’m feeling pretty good about it.
