Deb, sorry, one more thing. Your dad sounds so much like my husband. he never complains (except when he’s hungry!) and is being so, so strong and so, so sweet to everyone (esp. me) during this horrible time. It humbles me. I also agree with what you’re saying, most of the friends don’t understand. I am so scared and don’t know what to do other than remaining positive, staying at his side and praying for the best.

    Dear Deb and all,

Well, it seems that fluid on the lungs is impacting lots of us. My husband Jim had his chemo port changed last night and developed an infection. His condition changed quite quickly – septic – also had a pleural effusion, drained 750 ccs. They are testing the fluid and will let us know if it is infection, metastisis or pneumonia. There are also some spots on the lungs and what appears to be new mets on the liver. He is having difficulties breathing, his heart enyzmes are elevated and the heart function has decreased. We’re praying the fluid doesn’t have cancer.

I don’t understand what’s happening and I am so scared. I don’t know how sick he is. He’s had lots of infections before and always pulled through.

I am praying for all of you and please include my husband in your prayers.

    Kirsten,
Please keep posting good news. We need it as it gives us hope. I am so scared and seeing how well you’re doing provides a practical demonstration of living far beyond the stats.

Many thanks – I’ve never heard of a chemo pump before!! My husband is alos not eligible for a resection so this is really encouraging to learn of this treatment. We have an appointment wiht Dr. Abou Allfa – he’s supposed to be good on bile duct cancers.

Thanks again to all of you for the support.

The cost of a (deceased) liver transplant is around 300,000 — much depends upon how long you spend in the hospital. Living donor is around 400,00. the cost is also dependent upon the type of insurance you have, i.e. what rate that Mayo will bill to the insurance company.

the protocol is pretty narrow – tumor has to be less than 3 cm, no metastis and no cystic duct involvement. My husband was initially listed and then removed because his tumor is 3.5 and there are tiny mets on the liver.

I wish you all the best.

Thanks so much – – the CC really is a strange animal eh. He’s had a few infections and some abseses on the liver, which cleared up with the antibiotics. I agree, that it seems too high for tumor fever. We’ll see, like someone else posted the other day, maybe he is just a hot tamale!! Anyway, we’re watching it close.

Thanks again to all of you, it is such a comfort having all of you there.

    Warmest wishs,
    Danielle

PS – Lainy, we’ll be back in Phoenix – although he’ll be treated at SK, the Mayo is his ‘home’ hospital now. they’ve been so, so good to him.

    Hi Irene,
I love your attitude (and I wish Jim’s tumor was lazy…). Regarding the lymph nodes, Jim was told he had lymph node involvement and then later on adrenal gland involvement but both cleared up on subsequent scans. Regardless, your attitude is inspiring and it ‘s amazing what hte body and spirit can do.
    Warmest thoughts to you,
    Danielle
