grafsjMemberBelle –
My wife’s oncologist prescribed MEGACE for an appetite stimulant. It’s a liquid. Seems to work pretty well.

grafsjMemberWife Lana has not had severe itching yet. But I gather its a foregone conclusion that she will eventually have this problem. I’m going to tuck away the suggestions in this thread for future use. Thanks all.
grafsjMemberKristan. Thank you so much for your story. It will help all of us. I personally don’t believe in luck. Miracles, however, obviously do happen. God bless you.

Glad you had a great time. Keep posting about your progress.
It’s obvious that prayer is a mighty powerful tool.

God give strength to everyone affected by this terrible disease.grafsjMemberThank you all for your input. Lana had a good weekend. She was up most of the day. Just a short nap mid-afternoon. It’s been nearly 3 weeks since last infusion of oxaliplatin and 10 days since stopping xeloda.
We go for a CT scan Wednesday and another dose of oxaliplatin. We are praying that this chemo is stopping the spread. The gemcitabine didn’t seem to.
Fortunately we have not experienced any blockage or jaundice yet.
Thanks again,
Steve
God bless everyone affected by this terrible disease.
grafsjMemberHi Jeff –
No one prescribed this. I was just inquiring about the advisability of the drug to combat lack of energy. I knew that it was prescribed for children with ADD to slow them down, but had heard that it had the opposite effect on adults i.e. to give them more energy. Lana isn’t depressed, she just doesn’t have any energy. We see the doctor next Wednesday for a CT scan and another infusion of oxaliplatin. I don’t know if we will be taking xeloda again or not. It caused huge blisters on Lana’s feet. The last time she was this tired, she received 2 units of blood (anemic). The transfusion really helped.
Thanks for your concern. I try to always investigate first.

grafsjMemberHi Tom,
My wife, Lana, has the itching problem. From what I understand, this is not uncommon with cc. Our oncologist prescribed DOXEPIN for the itching. It seems to be working. She is taking one 50mg capsule at bedtime.
The first time I got this prescription, I thought the pharmacy had made a mistake. It seems that this medication is for depression. So I called and verified. Sure enough, it alleviates itching.
Lana’s DX was the middle of October 2007. She is doing ok. Currently on oxalaplatin and xeloda. Side effects are huge blisters on her feet and of course quite tired.
Hope this helps.

grafsjMemberErsin,
Great news about the treatment! You mentioned it was quite expensive. I guess insurance did not cover the treatment. We have Blue Cross and the Goshen Hospital and Dr. Gulec are preferred providers. Not sure if our insurance will cover this. Any suggestions?
Steve
grafsjMemberThanks to all for the responses. Lana’s feet are still swollen but the pain has subsided a little. We, as everyone on this web sire are continuing to battle this terrible and devastating disease. When Lana was first diagnosed her liver was massively involved (tumor on right lobe measuring 14 cm).
Gemcitabine did not stop the growth so we are doing the oxaliplatin and xeloda.God bless you all.

grafsjMemberThe oncologist gave my wife a prescription for the appetite enhancer, megace. It’s expensive but seems to work. We also had trouble with constipation. I can’t remember the name of what he prescribed, but it’s a thick syrup that draws moisture into the bowel and relieves the constipation. Protonix is prescribed for stomach acid reflux.
