Blessings to you Lisa. You have to do what you feel in your heart is best. I am a firm believer in quality of life. After my second round of IV chemo, and not being able to get out of bed for a week – it was too much. And, you are so right, God is in control. I found my greatest peace when I completely surrendered my fears and began trusting Him for every day. None of know when we’re going home. It could be tomorrow, it could be ten years, or Christ could come back before then and bring us all home together!! Peace and blessings,

houstonmomMemberDear Rick,
So glad to hear you are doing better, God’s word and prayer are amazing and Christ is our ultimate healer! Since my last message, I am feeling much better physcially and emotionally. While my situation does not compare to yours, my hope in sharing my “weariness” with you was to affirm it was okay (and expected) to have those low days. I know I’ve had a good share of them, but thanks to Christ, peace and joy ultimately prevail. God bless and heal you and Happy Father’s Day!!
houstonmomMemberI am so happy to know this site has helped you. Please let me know if I can provide you with any information re: my treatment or MD Anderson.
God Bless You!
houstonmomMemberPlease do share my experience with your doctor. If he wants to consult with my oncologist, I see Dr. Javle at MD Anderson in Houston. God bless you.
houstonmomMemberDear Devoncat,
I did not think I heard my doctor right when he said “no cancerous cells in the liver”. I actually made him repeat it to me! The plan is for me to stay on Tarceva indefinitely. Hopefully some other treatments will become available soon, as I understand that the body can eventually resist the medication. But, there is no reason to go there yet . . . just going to enjoy the moment and the victory!

It is a small world in the cholangiocarcinoma family. I began seeing Dr. Javle at MDA when I had my reoccurrence in July 2009. I

I got very good results from that combination, with several months of shrinkage and stabilization. My side-effects from Tarceva were minimal. The tumors were then killed with RF ablation. I would say give the Tarceva a try. You can always stop taking it if the side-effects get too hairy.
You mention that your new tumor is 2 cm in diameter. Have your docs mentioned radiofrequency ablation as an option? That is the perfect size tumor for RF ablation. However, they do get nervous if the tumor is too close to a major blood vessel or other sensitive structure.
I also live in Houston, and receive my care at MD Anderson. I wish you the best of luck!

Dear Violarob,
I have been on the Tarceva for twelve days now. My side effects are minimal, and I am very thankful. Probably the worst thing has been the severely dry skin; I also have a skin rash I think I received from the sun. I do notice that I am more tired, so I started taking the medication at night. Amazingly, I have been able to lay on my right side for the first time in months!
I had my surgery at Methodist and began my chemo regimen w/ them; however, my MD Anderson doc was the one who recommended and tested me for Tarceva. He also mentioned RF ablation as a possibility if they can “arrest” the cancer for 4-6 months. I
