Hi there Julia,
Thanks for your email, I do know I am overdue for a reply! Glad Susan’s chemo went well today. Did you manage to get there OK in the snow? We have had about 10 inches on Monday night and everywhere is eerily quiet, no buses for 2 days and generally people staying home…. Schools locally closed til Monday so my son very pleased!!

katieloumattMemberYou’re most welcome. I think it helps so much when you are well informed about all the options.

Thinking of you and your family as you continue to care for your Mum.
Katie
katieloumattMemberHi Julie,
Welcome to the board. I have copied this from the Macmillan cancer website in England to describe PDT to you, hope it helps ~
Photodynamic therapy (PDT)
PDT| uses a combination of laser light of a specific wavelength and a light-sensitive drug to destroy cancer cells. In bile duct cancer it is used to help relieve symptoms. The light-sensitive drug (a photosensitising agent) is injected into a vein. It circulates in the bloodstream and enters cells throughout the body. The drug enters more cancer cells than healthy cells. It does not do anything until it is exposed to laser light of a particular wavelength. When a laser is shone on to the cancer, the drug becomes active and destroys the cancer cells.

Welcome to the board. My Dad also had a Klatskin tumour but he didn’t have chemo so I’m sorry cannot help you with that.
Wishing you peace and strength on the journey you will take with your Dad’s treatment.
Good Luck with your exams,
Katie
katieloumattMemberDear Kay,
Welcome to this fabulous supportive board. I know exactley how you are feeling. My Dad died at the end of June this year, 7 weeks after diagnosis.
He had a failed liver resection and never regained concsciousness. He died 9 days after his surgery….
The pain you are feeling right now is raw and agonising. In time you will start to smile again and remember your Mum and cherish her memory.
She will live on in your heart for ever.
Thinking of you and your family, Katie
katieloumattMemberHi scraggles,
Please can I just add my welcome to the board. Our situation is different to your Mum’s. My Dad was diagnosed in May and sadly died just 7 weeks later after having a failed liver resection. He never had chemo so I cannot comment.
Just wishing you and your Mum strength for the journey ahead. The people on here are so knowledgeable and friendly, there is usually someone to help with queries/concerns.
Thinking of you and your family,
Katie

katieloumattMemberGavin,
So very very sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. What a loving and supportive son you are for both your Dad and now I know you will continue your care with your Mum.
Thinking of you in the next few days and weeks which will be so painful for you,
Katie
katieloumattMemberHi Dawna,
Welcome to the board. I’m sorry your Mum’s surgery was not successful.
My Dad went through an 11 hour surgery in June, only then to die 9 days later after never regaining consciousnes. His surgeon choose to be too ‘heroic’ in my eyes and carried on when it was obvious things were a lot worse than first suspected…. Initially the tumour was thought to be 1.5cm x 1.7cm, it clearly wasn’t…
So which way forward for you now? My Dad was in Florida but I could not recommend where he had his treatment obviously, I’m sure others may be able to help you.
Wishing you strength as you make your choices, thinking of you.
Katie
