Ok I should write to the papers here because veterans and also veteran backpackers could be affected and perhaps western countries are not as aware.I know my friends and family had absolutely never heard of it except one old friend who had a Thai friend die very quickly of cc.He came to see us as soon as he could -he is in another state.
JanetmagicSpectatorTo all I had the liver fluke theory right from the start for my husband.Joel actually travelled overland from Sydney to London-hitchiking,on boats, sitting on top of trainsetc all through southeast asia,India and so on back in the70s.I hadnt picked up on the risk to vietnam vets.Should I be writing letters to the papers here?
JanetmagicSpectatorCarol you and I are the same age and its terrible that we are going through what we are.My husband loved living near the beach-it was like a dream come true for him.Our house is old and ramshackle though we are simply living types in this beautiful place that we live. But of course its the people in a community t hat make it and luckily this small community is not too bad and I hope yours isnt too bad also.If I could bring you a meal or a bunch of flowers I would.
kind regards JanetmagicSpectatorJoyce Im in Australia near rainforest so my grass grows pretty quick. My gardens like a jungle at the moment because my husband loved gardening so much he tended to it and we are all in too much of a daze to sort it out
kind regards JanetmagicSpectatorBarbara I know that feeling in the doctors office. It is like the original bad news magnified and makes you feel very sick
kind regards JanetmagicSpectatorDear Carol I have recently experienced what you are going through and I found it an absolute nightmare.I felt so stressed all the time .I found the sea very therapeutic.I swam in it every day sometimes I would only be away from the house for 17minutes-I timed it(just a quick dip).Just being near the ocean helped for me.I realise not everyone lives near the sea but any water or special spot might help.Of course nothing really takes away the pain and stress of it all just lifts it very slightly
Wishing you strength Janet
magicSpectatorHi I think for me everything has become so hard.I have no family close by and my sister who lives in another state has just had a cancer diagnosis and so we are all just reeling about and I have 3 kids at home-the youngest in his last year of high school, one at university and one not well and I cant work the lawnmower so there you are and people tell me I am doing amazingly well but as you know Im really not
Janet
magicSpectatorDarla you are such a caring woman and you have made a difference to me
magicSpectatorI think my point was that I introduced myself too late.My husband was sent the website by a friend in NewYork but it was too late for him to make contact.I just noticed there seemed to be 2 camps and actually most of the people (not all)who responded to this post didnt respond before.I myself genuinely do feel compassion for all of you at all stages but I think if my husband and I had had the time to make contact before we might have felt more part of the clubetc
magicSpectatorHi Steph-your dad is lucky to have you.Iwish I had you.
magicSpectatorHi Lu luu I lost my husband recently too its a pretty weird time for us.I am on the other side of the world to you and I am 52. Good luck to us both
magicSpectatorHi Kelly How devastating to lose your father so quickly like that. You must have been in shock.Wi th such a rare cancer its harder to understand and identify with others-they dont seem to get it-the speed of it etc
good luck
magicSpectatorDear Carol I think it is very hard on us nurses as we expect so much of ourselves and deperately try and problem solve everything. If he is not vomiting its probably not an obstruction as such-maybe some pressure.Remember you have to be patient with the laxatives as their effect can take time.Plenty of fluids and incre ased activity even just walking around the house a few times can help. The morphine based medications are very constipating unfortunately good luck
magicSpectatorTo Pauline thanks for your message-your experience was terrible, you must have re-lived it continuously. It is devastating to lose aloved one but even a short time of knowing and being prepared helps(or maybe not ;who knows)Anyway I think the stress of it all is quite crushing Janet
magicSpectatorHi my husband had cisplatin with gemcitabine too.He found a funny taste a side effect. What helped with this was ginger beer and euclyptus drops-if you can buy them Janet
