Barb…my husband experienced pain in his lower back also. We were told that it was due to the metastasis and he was given pain medication which he responded to quite well. Have you discussed this with his physician?

Sue….what a beautiful poem and how wonderful for Sam wanting to read this. I don’t now what could be more appropriate then a daughter wanting to say those things closes to her heart when speaking of her Dad.

Amy…..so sorry to hear this. And you are right in feeling good about the minimal size of the tumor. Your Mom may very well respond to another treatment or surgery, if applicable. We focused on an positive approach when new areas of concern arose and continued to look for options coming our way. Sending tons of good wishes your way and awaiting your report on Friday.

You and your family have been wonderful with your Aunt Pat and I am sure for her to recognize the love you have shown.
You are mentioning that your Aunt Pat is now being cared for at a Hospice facility. Is anyone in the family or friend available to personally visit the facility in order to make sure that she is receiving the care she deserves? With Hospice providing comfort care only, you might want to clarify the procedures at this facility. Should fluid develop in her lungs again, would they return her to the Hospital? Have they ever tended to a Cholangiocarcinoma patient? Do you have access to the medical personnel at all times? Will you be updated on your aunt

Yes, Milk Thistle has been discussed as long as I have been on the board (2006.) It is a lengthy process however, you might find some information when using the “Search” function. Simply, enter “Milk Thistle” (don’t worry about the author) and you will be able to peruse several discussions in regards to Milk Thistle. Good Luck.

More then 10 million people with a history of cancer are alive today in the United States and many more in other countries. New treatments are always being developed. The fear that any one of you has cancer or might develop it at any time is mixed with hope. Research is constantly finding new ways to treat cancer. This is what gives me hope.

Ray…..welcome and thank you for sharing your story. It is so very important for all of us to hear from people like you who have been able to receive a liver from a life donor and in your case, your wonderful daughter Jennifer. It gives us hope. Please, stay in touch.

Jan…you have certainly done a wonderful job by finding a great facility for your Dad. Having moved him closer for observation certainly, is proving their commitment to care for your Dad as expected and the promise of providing extra attention should allow you to be more at ease. Thinking of your and your Dad and sending good wishes your way.

Carol…so glad to hear that Charlie can take a break and for things to be stable. I especially like Charlie’s answer to the oncologist…he wants both, quantitiy and quality and yes, we all wish for the same. Hoping for his energy to increase and that he will enjoy everything he was not able to do while undergoing chemo.

You are normal the situation is not, and what you are expressing has been said before, in many ways.
I am quoting form “Listen with your Heart” – talking with the person who has cancer – American Cancer Society –
During the cancer illness, people with cancer may express anger and frustration to those around them. This can be upsetting to family members and friends, but it may help to remember that people often displace their feelings onto people close to them. They do this because the people closest to them are a safe outlet. Also, because it is hard to get mad at cancer (the real cause of their frustration and sadness), they take their angry feelings out on those closest to them
and this is you, Heather. Being a caretaker is an overwhelming responsibility and you also need to be tended to. You might want to reach out for professional help and don’t forget we have Dr. Giles who’s expertise is invaluable to all of us. Hang in there and I am so glad for you to have found the courage to vent as most, if not, all of us caretakers have experienced similar feelings and hopefully, will convey this to you.
    Hugs to you,
    Marion

Judy…wonderful to hear how well you are tolerating the 5FU while the side effects are lessening each time. You are not complaing about the radiotherapy received…so I am assuming for you to not to have any side effects, either. You must be looking forward to your next overseas trip.
Hope it to be real soon. Thank you for your offer of distributing the brochures. They will be mailed to you, soon.
