Hai Minh…great news about your Mom. Everyone’s response is different when recuperating from a surgery especially, one as invasive as this one. Once I had been told by a surgeon: “I did my job now, it is up to the body to do what it needs to do.” Stay strong…sending tons of good wishes your way.
marionsModeratorDear Patti….I am sad for you and for all these wonderful grandchildren. Your Mom’s peaceful slipping away is comforting to know as now she is at peace leaving behind a legacy of who she was, a person who’s memories will be cherished, forever.
marionsModeratorKris…..most likely they are using a scan which can capture a 3D image of the area (generally, an organ) quickly and with reduced x-ray exposure.

This is a very complex operation and bleeding can be a major problem. My concern is the color of the vomit…does is resemble coffee grounds in it’s consistency or, is it a liquid fluid, dark brown in color? I am not a physician, but there are physicians around you. Please, have them explain to you exactly what it is they think is happening. You need some emotional support. Who is there for you? As Jeff had suggested, talk to the social worker at the hospital or, talk to the nurses and have them arrange a meeting with someone who can give you some explainations for what is happening to your Mom.
Thinking of you and sending all my love.marionsModeratorSophie….the Xeloda had to be special ordered for my husband, also causing us to have to wait a few extra days. Sophie…a few days of waiting won’t make much difference with the treatment protocol. Hoping for you to relax and relish the fact that things are moving in the right direction.
marionsModeratormybdm…..This is the most difficult walk to walk and I am hoping for you and your husband to be able to cherish the most precious moments of all. Now, it is all about finding comfort for your wonderful husband and for you to have the strengths and support so much needed, at this very special time in your life. Please, don
marionsModeratorBelle…..So very happy to hear that Cesamet is controlling the nausea and vomiting for you sister. Thanks for passing on this information. Hoping for you to get some much needed rest.

There was quite a bit of bleeding (about one week) post surgery for my husband however, it diminished slightly, every day. Others may be able to share with you their personal experiences, also.
Sending good wishes your way,
-M-marionsModeratorirenea……..I would like to share this: (I am sure to be corrected if stating anything wrong.) Oftentimes, the criteria are strict: No metastases, limited or, no prior chemotherapy, sometimes no multiple tumors or, sometimes tumors not exceeding a specific size. I have learned about some clinical trials where a controlled group of patients is being treated with a conventional therapy and the results are then compared to the control group receiving another drug or, another drug in addition to the conventional drug. For example: Group A receives 5FU and Leucovarin and Group B receives 5FU, Leucovarin and Oxyplatin. The results are then compared. However, a new drug for Cholangiocarcinoma would fall under the Orphan Drug status meaning: it is a rare disease affecting fewer than 200,000 patients or: less then 5 people per 10,000.
marionsModeratorKris….exactly what we would love to see for researchers and physicians to be pooling their information.
marionsModeratormybdm….so sorry for you to be receiving the news however, there still is John Hopkins, an institution very familiar with CC. Please, stay with us. Sending tons of love your way.
July 31, 2008 at 10:07 pm in reply to: Is it necessary to have a chemo/radio therapy right after the surgery? #21247marionsModeratorhaiminh……the vomiting you are describing; have the physicians given you an explaination? Also, has it stopped?
marionsModeratorDonna…..thanks for joining us. Studding in the abdominal wall has been reported by many. When did you have your latest scans before, the Hernia operation? Possibly, at that time the tumors were too small to be detected through imaging. I have been told, seeing a 1 cm focal nodule may or. may not be important since the images generally are 0.5-1cm thick meaning it could easily be missed on past or future studies. Therefore, we had been told by our physicians that the true extent of the disease can be determined only, during surgery. I am puzzled though. of your surgeon reporting a “mass” in the abdomen. And, by the way, you are not bringing anyone down. Can’t wait to hear from you after the consult with the Mayo clinic.
Sending tons of good wishes your way.marionsModeratorKritin….you are making an interesting point….for a while many of us were wondering about the connection of being physically fit such as being a runner and this cancer.
marionsModeratorKris, hoping for your husband to be recuperating from the HIFU, with great results coming your way. It would be wonderful as it seems to be rather non-invasive with promising results in prostate cancer patients for which it has been approved in the US.
Sending my best wishes all the way to Kuala Lumpur.
