There has been some discussion about ammino acids in the past in re: to prorphial neuropathy.
It was mentioned amongst others in the interview with Dr. Gorter:Xeloda does have minor side effects such as loose stool but the significant side effect is proriphial neuropathy which can practically be prevented by the increased intake of alpha-lipoic acid. You can counter this side effect by taking 600mg of alpha-lipoic acid which essentially, is a fatty acid. However, you cannot take alpha-lipoic acid during the period of the intake of Xeloda since the effect would be inhibited, but in many instances neuropathy can be prevented by taking alpha-lipoic acid during the two-week break.

we tried many different ones. I remember Kytril and Prilosec. Others on the board may be able to advise other products. Hoping for mom to get some rest.
Marions.marionsModeratorCarol,
I will be thinking of you and am wishing the best of luck and a speedy recovery for Charlie.
MarionsmarionsModeratorLana,
hoping so much for you Dad to be finding some relief and hopefully a cure but, what struck me is your comment: “and he knows that he will die very soon anyway.” Is his intention to take “any ‘ risk, or would he possibly like to consult with other surgeons in order to have a comparison in re: to risk vs. outcome.
MarionsmarionsModeratorI agree. Although, both of these studies are considered “observational non- randomized controlled studies” nevertheless, they are addressing this cancer, raising awareness and hopefully bringing us closer to a cure of this disease.

So sorry to hear about your Mom. It is a vicious cycleNovember 5, 2007 at 4:28 am in reply to: Can someone help me understand something please? SURGICAL OPTIONS? #16880marionsModeratorlaurahw,
my best wishes to Tommy and to a successfull surgery.
I was wondering, has Dr. Canady given you any information in re: to the risk factor? Also, I would be interested in knowing as to how many surgeries of this type he has performed and how people have fared with it.
Hoping and wishing for the absolute best
MarionsmarionsModeratorLinda,
you might want to read the Stoufer blog as Caroline also lives in Colorado. It could possibly save you some trips out of state.
Also, in many instances copies of her medical records, Ct scans, physicians report etc.,
will be sufficient for second, third or more opinions.
Wishing for the best
MarionsmarionsModeratorLisa,

I suppose she now is on IV for hydration and the administration of medication. This will eliminate the use of suppositories during her stay.
Thinking of you, sending good wishes and hoping for the symptoms to diminish.
