    Hi Linda,

I would talk to your doctor before giving anything to your husband. You would want to make sure it was safe before putting it in your husband’s fragile body. I don’t get a good feeling since apple juice makes you go to the bathroom. I’m not much for weird concoctions, probably because Lauren’s oncologist isn’t either. This is just my opinion, so take it for what it is worth. Try more binding food such as bananas and rice. Also, my daughter had diarrhea once and I was told by a member on this site to get her Balneol for a sore behind. It works wonders. All the best to you and your husband.

    Hugs,
    -Pam

    Hi Bill,

How wonderful to hear your great news. It especially makes me feel good since my daughter will have part 1 of a 2 part surgery on March 25. You give us all hope!! God bless and keep up the great work.

    Dear Angie and Notdoneyet,

I am so sorry for what you and your father and son are having to endure. My daughter is only 26 and has CC as well. She has had the good fortune of being fairly healthy so far, but if she got to the point where she was suffering every day, I think I would feel the same way you do, Notdoneyet. I couldn’t bear to see her suffer and in pain. My wish is for your father and son to be comfortable and pain free during this difficult time. Bless you both.

    Love,
    -Pam

Randi- I love sauerkraut on hot dogs too, with some mustard. Mmmm, sauerkraut and pickles sounds good. Sounds like something you’d eat when you had pregnancy cravings.

Lainy- I will definitely make the cabbage soup. Seems to me a long time ago I was on the cabbage soup diet. I drink V-8 every day, but since trying to eat healthy, I drink the low sodium version. Tasted bad at first, but I am used to it now.

This is just cracking me up!! Sauerkraut is a German food. It is fermented cabbage. It is really sour, salty and good. I know it sounds terrible, but it has a great taste. We don’t make it ourselves. It comes in a jar, can, or plastic bag. A lot of people eat it with pork and it is the food a lot of Americans eat on New Year’s Day for good luck. It is kind of stinky when it is cooking. Most people either really love it or absolutely hate it. Remember, Gavin – No question is a dumb question. We all come from different parts of the world and I think it is so cool that we learn about each other’s cultures.

Lainy- The deep frying is what makes it bad. Maybe a baked version? I am very impressed by your use of the word “deconstruct.”

Marion- We didn’t even order any so Lisa did not get one. It was a sad day.Haha!!!

    Hi Marion,

A sauerkraut ball is a delicious ball of goodness! It is made with sauerkraut, ham or sausage and a bunch of other ingredients. The mixture is formed into small balls and breaded. It is deep fried and delicious, but doesn’t fit into our “healthy lifestyle” way of eating. Darn!! I thought people all over the US had heard of these. Maybe they are just an Ohio thing?? Anyone care to comment?

That’s funny, Lisa. On the way to the restaurant, I said to Lauren, “No more sauerkraut balls.” Made me a little sad. Those were so good. We had a great time with you today. Love you!!

    Hi Tammy,

I hope you feel better since getting the 2nd opinion. Sounds like you are doing everything right. Don’t get too wrapped up and worried about shrinkage. It is awesome, but stable is good too. It means the chemo is keeping the tumor from growing!! I hope to continue to hear good things about your Dad. Take care.

    Hugs,

    Hi Brackley,

I just wanted to chime in and welcome you to this site. I don’t know how things go in Canada, so I don’t have any advice for you other than keep fighting the good fight and never give up hope. I am sorry things are so difficult for you in that you have a chronic illness. My heart goes out to both of you. Life is so unfair sometimes. God bless you both.

    Love,

    Hi Rebecca,

I can’t really add anything more than was already said. I wanted to welcome you to this site and tell you that I am sorry to hear about your Mom. It is so very hard to see someone you love not feeling well and wondering what to do. It makes a person feel very scared and helpless. I am hoping whatever is decided for your Mom’s treatment makes her feel better and she begins to improve. I hope you continue to update us on your Mom’s condition.

    Hugs,
    -Pam

    Hi Tiff,

Basically, we watch portion sizes which is a real eye opener. Not a bowl of cereal, but whatever the serving side is. Whole wheat is best for breads and cereal. I don’t like milk and I’m pretty sure I’m lactose intolerant, so I’ve started using low fat vanilla Silk milk on my cereal and I love it. It looks gross, but tastes great. Also, for meat, we eat mostly boneless, skinless white meat chicken. 3 oz. servings. Instead of eating 1/2 a box of my favorite crackers, I eat 6. Use less salt and really watch fats. We’ve cut out most junk food, but do eat pretzels and baked chips in moderation. The nutritionist said we could eat as many fruits and veggies as we want. Think of them as free food. The thing is, you can’t eat a ton of them without getting sick of them, so you don’t overeat like you would with cheese, chips, or sweets. I love V-8 juice, so I got it in the low sodium variety. At first, I didn’t like it, but have gotten used to it. The nutritionist said that no food is off limits because if it is, that makes you crave it and think about it all the time. So if you have a craving, eat it and get over it. Otherwise you will eat stuff to try and squash the craving and usually end up eating that food plus what you have been craving. I think a lot of it is psychological because if you know you can eat anything, you don’t want it. It is weird. Plus, with Lauren, knowing that Dr. S will have an easier time operating on her if she is healthy with a strong heart is very motivational. Lauren seems so much more active and energetic now. She feels good too. Another thing is that we look at nutrition facts for restaurants and know what will fit into our plan. We eat three meals a day and can have up to three snacks a day. We try and keep our snacks to around 100 cals. each. We usually end up eating around 1200 cals. a day. If you don’t want to lose weight, you could increase the calories. It’s just the age old simple method of eating healthy food and more exercise. It is by no means easy, but well worth it.

    Dear Suzy,

I am so sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. Please try and find comfort in that your Dad is now in heaven watching over you and your family. My heart is with you as you mourn the loss of your brave, strong warrior. May he rest in peace. Please try and enjoy the party your Dad wanted to celebrate his life.

    Love,
    -Pam
