    Hi Kris,

You and Lauren will be in the “tubes” on the same day!! She has an MRI on Tuesday. I think she would like to trade places with you. She hates MRIs. CTs don’t bother her so much. Good luck and I will be praying for great results!!

    Hi Christine,

That is great that your Mom is still kicking cancer’s butt!! I think her feistiness and stubborn nature really help. Tell her I said to keep up the great work and that she is amazing!! Give her a big Birthday hug from me and I hope you both continue to do well.

    Hi Deane,

My daughter is on Xeloda also but is lucky enough not to have gotten diarrhea from it. I know that is a side effect though. I don’t know about the weird BP. I wish I could be of more help. I hope your Mom begins to feel better soon. Take care and keep us posted.

    Hi Joyful,

I feel we are almost experts on the chemo experience since my daughter, Lauren has had over 30 treatments. We have found at the cancer center we visit that the nurses are so nice and caring. You will want to wear comfy clothes because Gem/Cis usually takes quite a while. They should give your sister an anti nausea med in her iv. Lauren also got a steroid. I’ve read on here where some people get hyper from the steroid, but Lauren never did. Just really grumpy. Bring favorite snacks and an i-pad or laptop. At our place, they provide juices, coffee, tea, pop, bagels, crackers, and ice cream. I don’t know if other places provide food. There is also the hospital cafeteria. Magazines, books, cards, and knitting or crocheting are also things people do. They usually have tvs there as well. Once in awhile you may get put next to someone you can chat with, but more often than not they are sleeping or not in the mood to visit. Lauren likes to close her curtain for privacy. Like Lisa said, a port is a great thing. If your sister doesn’t have one, ask about it. That’s about it. I hope you have a great experience. Please let us know how things go.

I am very sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. I am sending huge hugs your way. I think the only thing that can mend your broken heart is time. Hopefully, you will wake up one day with peace in your heart and enjoy life again like you so deserve. Lots of love to you.

    Dear venkat,

I am so happy to hear of your friend’s successful surgery. Dr. Sonnenday is my daughter’s liver surgeon when she is able to have surgery. I am so happy he was able to help. I cannot say enough great things about that dear man. He definitely has dedicated his life to helping others. Please keep us updated on your friend’s progress. All the best to both of you.

    Dear bluebird,

I am very sorry to hear of Jack’s passing. Suffering such a loss must be so difficult, but add in the holidays and it must be even more devastating. I pray that you and your dear son find comfort and peace in Jack’s memory. God bless you both.

I agree with Percy. A positive attitude is one of the most important things to have. Lauren has that every day in her fight with this cancer.

    Hi Annie,

My daughter had the same problem when she was on Gem/Cis. She is now on Gemzar and an oral chemo called Xeloda. Xeloda makes her feel a little cruddy, but her counts aren’t as bad. 5-FU is similar to Xeloda, but is administered over 48 hrs. with a pump. She was also on that with the Gem/Cis and had no problem with that. I hope this helps and your brother can find something he can tolerate. Remember that your oncologist will know what is best for your brother. Lauren’s oncologist always gives her the option of doing what he suggests or what I mention to him. He always has good reasons to do what he recommends. So we listen to him every time! Take care.

    Hi Deane,

Welcome to this wonderful site, but so sorry you had to find us. Your Mother sounds like a strong lady, after already battling lung cancer. My daughter is currently on Gemzar and Xeloda as well. I hope your Mom will be able to have a resection, but if not there are many on this site in the same boat. Everyone tries different chemos, radiation, and many other things to try and shrink tumors and prolong life. We are one little family that helps and supports each other through good times and bad. Please keep us updated on your Mom and I wish her all the best in the future.

    Dear Bob and Nancy,

I am heartsick over the news. I was so excited for all of you and had hoped and prayed for the best. I am sure you are just devastated by the news. By how you have explained Jeff’s demeanor, he will probably take it all in stride with a smile on his face. Like you said, I too have no words except for I am sorry. You will all be in my prayers. Bless you.

What wonderful news, Randi!! Can’t get any better. I wish everyone could be as blessed too, but you, my dear, so deserve a break. Look at all you have been through, so I hope you never feel even a tiny speck of guilt. I just get the feeling that is what you are feeling and I want you to get that notion right out of your head. I am so happy for you!! Happy Holidays.

    Love and hugs,

Darn it, Lisa. I was hoping your rising CA19-9 was just some weird thing. I am happy you know your body so well that you knew something was up. You caught it super early and you know what works to get rid of those pesky tumors. Here is my new wish for you. I wish that stupid CC would realize that you are just too tough for it and it says ” This is just not worth it with this feisty lady. I’m outta here for good!!! I love you very much and I know your great doctors will come up with a successful plan. Have a great Christmas and we will have lunch soon.

    Love and big hugs,
    -Pam
