SpectatorHi Everyone,
Thanks for your well wishes. Lauren was able to have chemo. Her platelets were only 94, but her doctor somehow let her have chemo. Her back was hurting really bad today. Those darn uncomfortable chemo chairs. She is now resting comfortably and sound asleep at her sister”s house in Michigan. Love to you all.

SpectatorHi Eli,
I doubt I would be able to get Lauren to have another liver biopsy. She said it was the most painful thing she ever went through and swears she will never have another one. Thanks for your thoughts.

SpectatorHi LeeAnn,
My daughter, Lauren, has a power port. It was really sore when she first got it for quite a while. Now it is ok. It still gets sore sometimes. She has always been really sensitive around her collar bone area so maybe that is why it hurts. She gets Gem/Cis through the port. She always uses numbing cream before it is accessed. She only got hurt the first time it was accessed when the dumb lady in the lab stuck the needle under her port on the side and it hurt like heck. From that time on, she always asks the person accessing her port if they know what they are doing!! I am sure you will do great.

SpectatorKris,
I read your CaringBridge and it does seem like you had a lot of problems with your chemo. I hope the resection will fix things once and for all!! Take care.

SpectatorPercy,
I think you have done such a great job explaining a lot to me. My daughter is on Gem/Cis and 5 FU in a clinical trial. She will be having her 12th round next week. The doctor is thinking he might want to use just Gemzar and 5FU after her MRI and CT scan if tumors are still shrinking. He thinks Cisplatin is really hard on the kidneys to be used longer term. She also has a problem with low platelets and the doctor said that is caused mostly by the Cisplatin. I would just like your opinion on this. Is there a better chemo that I can bring up? I know you are not a doctor, but you research a lot and seem to know your stuff. Thanks again for getting back to me so quickly.

SpectatorThanks Percy. Now when you have the time, can you explain the difference between each one and why they use some more than others. I know you are not a doctor, but I know you know a lot about this stuff. Thank you so much for your time. You are the best and such a valuable asset to this site!!

SpectatorKris,
I think it is so awesome that you get to have surgery. That is what everyone hopes for and you are one of the lucky ones!! It is only natural to be nervous. I would think something was wrong with you if you weren’t! I am so excited for you. You are so tough. I know you will sail through everything. Best wishes to you.
