    Hi,
It may be of interest if you can take a look at this link. I am not a doctor, but as you know a patient for 44 months. Adjuvant chemotherapy whether is effective or not still in debate. But this clinical trial seems to be one of a kind and in theory,it will provide , in my opinion, a better option for us who have cholangiocarcinoma. for it is related to rearm our immune system and be a better fighter for such disease. But by no means it is a ” magic bullet ” ; it has side effects too.

    Hi, Lisa,
Hang in there, you have David on your side and everything should be fine.
Of course 5 recurrences are no fun. but you are still here and i will pray for your completely recovery.
Your 5th recurrence reaffirmed my assumption that just receive the current recommendation of 6 month adjuvant chemotherapy after resection is not enough.Additional treatment may be of benefit for the long run.(keep the recurrence out as long as we can).
    God bless.

    Hi,Mark,

I am sorry to hear the recurrence; but you and I both know that it will come sooner or later (of course I thought the same like you and hoping that we are the 25% minority that will not get it repeated);apart from that, Mark, don’t worry, since relatively speaking yours lesion at this point is small, that is why they order a MRI to double check it. but if it is <3cm in size and not more than 3 lesions; you have a lot of choices including RFA (if location is allowed); and if so, you can get out of the hospital the same day after the procedure.
My experience told me to seek surgical opinion first after the oncologist told me of my recurrence, RFA on one tumor and resection on the other due to too close to the right hepatic duct.( but if you get an experienced interventional radiologist ,I read reports that some of the skillful radiologists can RFA (or microwave) the tumor even in between tight and difficult area like near the portal vein and hepatic artery area, thus prevent the resection like mine.) but the key is to find out the size and location and vascular involvement first. Standford is known for radiology treatment.2nd opinion there may be helpful.
You can email me the CT scan if you don’t mind to see what I can do.
Good luck, don’t worry and enjoy the holidays.
    God bless.

    Hi,
If the diagnosis is cholangiocarcinoma, I will get a 2nd opinion by a LIVER surgeon. Dr.Chapman in St.Louise; Dr. Gores at Mayo Clinics; Dr. Kato at New York Pres.; or the multidisciplinary team approach at John Hopkins near you.
I am a patient of this disease for 44 month after 2 resections and there are so many others too.
Please look at our experience forum under “surgery and resections” and you will learn a lot more about the best doctors; the resection experiences before and after; the benefit and difference for CT scan, MRI and PET; it is a lot to learn but will be useful in the future for understanding this disease.
Remember surgery is the ONLY possible CURE for this disease and age of the patient is not a risk factor in determining the outcome.
    God bless.

    Hi,
Pain may not a common occurrence for the end stage of cholangiocarcinoma patient; but I know patients on this board have been complaint about it.
I had a 6×8 cm tumor in my liver before the first resection; and a couple 2x3cm tumor in the second resection. I feel no pain.and I have ICCA .
My sis-in-law who passed away of the same disease had no pain that I could be aware off during the last 5 days of her life. Most of the time she was just too weak to even saying a word, but she know about what happened around her. she might be in and out of conscious due to the disease. She had ECCA.

My best guess is that ,patient may experience pain due to the location and size of the tumor; the scar tissues after resection, procedures or the radiation treatment received.
If you father can get the blood sugar under control; he may be as well as a new man, please try to get a GP and/or an endocrinologist to see your father to get the blood sugar under control. Hopice dose not means it is the end and you can stop or come back to the program if you wish.
If I were you, and since I am a patient of this disease, Stage 1 CCa at this moment may not be the cause of problem unless is related to the Y90 treatment. The blood sugar may be the problem.
BTW, i am not a doctor but just a patient who live with this disease.
    God bless.

    Hi,
Yes, the CCA can spread to abdomen area like the omentum ,bones and lungs.
If the patient is female, it can spread to the ovaries.
    God bless.

    hi,
Try to schedule a 2nd opinion for medical oncology consult at Cleveland Clinic.
sometimes surgeon’s opinion will be different than the oncologist ;but if you get a 2nd opinion for the same specialty( in this case, oncology) at the Cleveland Clinic, then the problem(ie: chemotherapy or not ; or the opinions of metastasis ) will be solved. In the meantime while you are waiting ;Please don’t get upset, the ups and downs are part of the journey of this cancer, and as a patient, like myself for 44 months, I will save every ounce of my energy toward the goal of getting better. yes, I am fearful of the outcome too, but it is nothing I can do, instead I will try my best to research and be informed to make the best guess of choosing the treatment; but at the end , it is all up to God. So don’t cry and try to make this a happy holiday for you and your kids.
    God bless.
