Shar;
I feel your pain. My Mom also passed away on Tuesday. She only had one chemo treatment which seemed to make her worse. She was diagnosed in September. We took care of Mom at home. I tried to research every possible option to makes things better, but it was not meant to be. I will treasure my time spent with Mom, especially the last 3 years of which I did not work so we were together every day.
I did not want her to suffer any longer and her illness did not allow her to be herself.
I know how you feel.
Bless yousharonleeMemberLiz;
I have gently lifted Mom’s legs one by one up and down slowly along with her arms. This I did on my own. I know Mom knew the benefit of keeping the body moving so I do this ever so gently. A therapist came to the house one day, but I was not emotionally fit to meet then.
Thank you and everyone for posting.
Bless you.sharonleeMemberLainy & Gavin;
Mom is not taking any laxatives or the like. She takes iron pill, baby aspirin, tylenol for pain, anxiety pill and depression pill.
I will ask the oncologist.
Thank you.sharonleeMemberFireEeyore
I am sorry to hear about your loved one. As you know, I am taking care of my Mom (76) who has ext. bile duct cancer. She was doing fine with an internal stent and then went for her 1st and only chemo treatment. After that she became so weak she is unable to get out of bed herself. The surgeon in NY originally said have Mom get chemo and then return to see if she was a surgery candidate. With this illness I am afraid my hope was taken. I now do the best I can for Mom. I hope you are feeling better.
Bless You and Your Loved OnessharonleeMemberThanks all you wonderful people for posting and helping me take care of Mom.
Mom’s taking Adivan for anxiety. She does not like all this hanging around. She is not enjoying the time she has left I’m afraid. She does not want too many people around and she does put her hands out like to reach someone at times. Other times she’s calm. I dose off and on all night being with her, but the worst is getting her out of bed to get on the commode as she is sore.
Tonight I will give the tylenol product. She still tells me when she has to go even though she is weak.
Bless you all.
Thank you againsharonleeMemberLainy;
Thanks for your support. I have been giving Mom the tylenol; just didn’t know if there was anything else. I keep searching for ways to help Mom even if I know how bad this is. Can’t help it.
sharonleeMemberLainy;
I think I will be getting the wheelchair soon. They have them at the oncologist office when I get there. I pull up to the front door and then put Mom in the chair. I hope to go tomorrow.
Thanks Lainy

The nurses at the oncologist office suggested I get some at home help to assist. Mom has a local oncologist. She has her stent change outs at a large facility Yale Cancer Hospital, New Haven, CT. She did see a surgeon at Sloan, NY in the beginning, but they said have treatment and then they will see if she is a candidate. I will bring Mom into the oncologist – hopefully tomorrow.sharonleeMemberMarion;
I want to say thank you for asking all the questions. I am so blessed to have you help me. Mom has been seen only by the visiting nurse; I cancelled her last appointment because she was weak. She did have a scan the last time I took her to the emergency room. The oncologist has all the scans and blood work from the hospital. Mom’s temperature still goes to 100 – I give her tylenol which brings the temp down. I have an appointment scheduled with the oncologist tomorrow, but it’s so hard to get her there when she feels weak. Marion, any of your questions or suggestions are very helpful to me.
sharonleeMemberLainy;
I have talked to them. And I will again early next week. I have seen some old posts about yoga and steroids for fatigue etc. I know Mom won’t do yoga and I am not sure about the steroids (if they are safe). I know someone will tell me on this board. Anyway, it’s difficult to get Mom into the oncologist office when she feels so weak. She doesn’t want any more chemo.
Thanks for your reply Lainy.
Hope you have a nice weekend.sharonleeMemberGrover;
I am so happy for you and your family. We must believe as it is sometimes all we have. And, we are all sinners. Hugs to you.
sharonleeMemberHello all;
I previously posted about Mom’s fevers and said I read a suggestion for Naproxen, but after reading about it I will not look to give this to Mom. She needs something aspirin free.
Does anyone have suggestions on how I can get her to feel better? She has no energy? She had one chemo treatment. Not strong enought for that now.
She’s always had anemia. She drinks lots of liquids, but is only able to eat small, small quantities.
I read about some alternative products like milk thistle, etc. Vitamin B shots???sharonleeMemberCarlyn;
I am sorry to hear about your Mom. I too am taking care of my Mom (76) with bile duct cancer. She had one chemo treatment and after that became very weak. I am now looking for advise on how to improve her strength if possible.
This is the best site to get love, guidance and so much support. My Mom has a low grade fever often. I just read an old post that said cc can cause fevers and to try Naproxen 500 mg 2twice a day.
I hope your Mom gets out of the hosptial soon. I have a nursing/care group called the Hope Team which I just called for my Mom. It’s something before hospice. And I need all the hope anyone is willing to give me.sharonleeMemberLainy;
first Mom was on Avelox 400 mg for 10 days
next ciprofloxacin HCL 500 mg for 5 days
i will find out more today
Thank you Lainy for your supportsharonleeMemberI still continue with the blood infection subject. On Thursday the hospital called and said there was a positive reading and to get Mom back to the hospital. After speaking with the oncologist they said to start the broad spectrum antibiotic at home. We started them on Friday. On Sunday the hospital said they did not get ANOTHER positive reading so this may be contamination. OMG, nothing is clear. Everything is ???? I do know that Mom’s temperature flucuates quite a bit 97 to 101 this weekend. There are so many things to worry about; the illness, the stent, the port that is not working properly. I hope to get clarification of the blood infection issue tomorrow. Thanks for listening and for always helping me.
