    Dear Fellini,

I agree with the others that your mom is in the right place. Her quality of life and being comfortable and as pain free as possibly is the most important thing for her right now. Glad you found us, you too are in the right place for as much help and support as we can give. Let us know how she is doing.

Thinking of you, your mom & family.

    Dear Linda,

I am so sorry for what you are going through, but you have found a good place for help and support. Reading your posts, I can feel your sadness and pain. My husband was 62 and we had been married 41 years, so I do understand how you are feeling. Since you are already familiar with the signs from your experience with your mom, you know what to watch for and I’m sure it isn’t easy to go through this with your dear husband. When you are feeling sad and lonely, we are all here to listen and support you as much as we can. None of us would chose to be here, but I’m sure all would agree that we are all glad we found this wonderful, understanding, supportive “family”.

Take care and let us know how things are going.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your husband.

    Love & Hugs,

    Tina,

You have gotten a lot of good advice here and I think you are on the right path. The second opinion is a good step in the right direction. Good luck on Monday. Looking forward to hearing how it went and what you learn. Wishing your aunt the best.

Also want to welcome you to the club no one wants to belong to but are very glad to have found. I agree that it seems you are doing all the right things. Also feel a second and maybe third opinion is warranted at this point and that Barnes/Wash U in St. Louis would be a good choice.

Wishing you and your wife the best on your journey. Let us know how things are progress.

    Dr. Thrall,

No other answers beyond what Marion and Lainy have said, but just want to welcome you to our wonderful family. Hoping others will be along soon that may have more information for you.

    Dear Lou,

Thanks for taking the time to update your mom’s situation. Glad they finally did something and that she is pretty much not in pain. I too hope there will be some improvement soon and she will be more responsive and able to eat on her own. Try to take some time for yourself during this stressful time. I know it’s not easy, but you need to take care of you, too.

Take care and let us know how mom is doing.

    Diana,

I know you are dealing with multiple issues here, but sometimes you have to do what you feel comfortable with. At one point when my husband wasn’t able to eat much I was told to let him have anything that he asked for and could keep down. So please don’t let anyone guilt you for allowing him this small, simple pleasure. :)

I think we all felt blindsided in the beginning and because this disease is still considered rare, complex and presents itself differently in each case, it is hard to diagnosis and figure out what direction to go. I too am hoping you will get some answers on Friday.

Keep in touch and let us know how things are going and what you learn on Friday.

    Take care.

Hi Mary, That is beautiful and so true, isn’t it. I feel much like you, most days all I want is my old life back. I’m trying to move forward one step at a time, but sliding backwards two or three steps now & then. All we can do is keep taking it as it comes. One day at a time. We can do this.

    Thinking of you.

    Love & Hugs,
