ModeratorHi Randi,
Great to see you on here and to celebrate your 8 year anniversary of the whipple. Brilliant news and here is to the next 8 years, and more!! Yes unfortunately we have lost a lot of very very good people along the way but stories like yours are to be celebrated and I know that you will give a ton of hope as well to a lot of people out there. No wonder you wanted to take a break from here what with all you have to deal with, totally understandable. But so good to see you on here once again!
Hugs,
Gavin

ModeratorHi Catherine,
Real sorry to hear that you and your mum are in the hospital over Christmas, big GRRRR to that! But the flip side to that is that I am real glad to hear that she is making a good recovery albeit a little slower that you would have hoped for. And glad of course that she was able to have the surgery as well. I hope that your mum will continue with the recovery and so that you can both go home again very very soon!
So a semi comfy sofa? Well that I would argue is better than a hospital chair any day of the week! And I know that we both will have a lot of experience with hospital chairs!
Big hugs to you and your mum,
Gavin

ModeratorThanks Brigitte. And to all of my CC family here I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and hopefully 2018 will be good to you. I know how hard this time of the year can be for many of you here who are members and post or just read the boards but do not post. For those who may not know, I lost my dad in the run up to Christmas in 2009 and know from personal experience that this time of the year can be extra hard for some.
So please, I hope that the New Year will bring you all what you wish and a very Merry Christmas to all of you as well.
Huge hugs and thanks to all of you,
Gavin

ModeratorGlad to be of help Tilly! Yes the streaming was a great success last year and it allowed all of us from all over the world to watch it all in real time. Very cool as you say!
Thanks!

ModeratorHi Aroha,
Sorry to hear as well that you are having this pain to deal with. As if you will not have enough things to deal with already. Just want to say that I totally agree with what Mary has said to you in that pains should be reported to your medical team so that they can look into the possible causes of it and of course to try and deal with it as well. Pain can also be very tiring as well and you don’t want to have to deal with that also.
And just in case you didn’t know, we have a pain management board here that hopefully will throw up some discussions that will be of interest and use to you.
Please speak with your med team about this and let us know what they say about it.
My best wishes to you,
Gavin

ModeratorHi SF,
I’m guessing that the actual videos of the CC presentations if there are any done will be the possession of ASCO. But who knows, they may put them on their website for others to view. I will see if I can find anything out about this nearer the time so please remind me of this! I do think though that the abstracts for the presentations will be available as usual nearer the time of the meeting and when they are released I will put the links to them here on the site for all to see.
And like you, I too am looking forward to seeing the video’s and stuff from next Jan’s CCF meeting as well. It is great to see and hear from everyone there! Hopefully again this year there will be live webcam access so those who can’t make it (like me!) can still take part from afar.
Thanks!

ModeratorDear Positivity,
I am real sorry to hear the news about the hospice and the tumour covering the stent now. And yes, you are right in that this is not good news to hear. I know from experience after hearing that with my dad that it was tough to take in. I so hope that hospice will be able to get your mum most comfortable and I know again from my dads experiences that they did an excellent job in keeping him comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble for them and I hope for the same for your mum. Please keep us updated on things and know that we are all here for you.
Hugs,
Gavin

ModeratorHi Kate,
Yes, my dad was on Ursodeoxycholic acid after he had his metal stent placed and was going through his PDT treatment. As to the success or not with the acid I could not say either way. He never had stent changes as his stent was metal and not the plastic one that needs changed often. Here is a link that may be of interest to you –

These are official NICE guidelines for use of this in the UK and as to whether it is approved by the FDA in the USA I am not sure. Maybe others in the USA will be able to chime in on this?
My best to you,
Gavin

ModeratorHi Fay,
That is great and I am sure that you will have a great time there, and you will get to meet up with everyone there as well! I just sent you a message to your CCF inbox about this as well. Let me know. Thanks loads for attending and I am looking forward to hearing your report on it!!
Hugs,
Gavin
PS – Hope that your mum gets better soon.

ModeratorHi Pat,
Unfortunately no I won’t be able to make it again this time as getting care for my mum for the length of time needed for me to get there is just too difficult. She would need to go into a care home for me to be able to get over there and getting her a place is very hard to say the least.
However, I WILL get over there to meet all of you guys one day!
Hope that you will all have a great time next year. The Annual meeting just seems to get bigger and bigger each year!
Thanks Pat,
Gavin

ModeratorHi Molly,
Is the anti itch cream you mention called Sarna? Lainy used to talk about it a lot and said she got it for Teddy at Walgreens and it worked well for him. She talked about it a few times here on the site over the years and recommended it on the boards many times to people with jaundice. But it is not available in the UK but is in the US.
Thanks,
Gavin
