I agree with all the comments so far….it’s a difficult decision. Besides the physical side effects of chemo (tiredness & nausea) and the nagging doubt that chemo is not doing any good, I hated the idea of having a toxic chemical pumped into me for a perod of hours. No doubt you and Teddy will trash out the issues and come to the right decision.

You and Teddy are an inspiration with a great attitude to life. I love the thought of your 21-year old grand-son taking Teddy out for a game of golf. I presume they didn’t play 18 holes.Gerry

I’m so sorry to hear of your loss and my thoughts are with you and your family at this time.Gerry
hollandgMemberThanks for all your kind comments – they worked well. The operation was successful and this time they removed the tumour. I spent 3-weeks in hospital, one week longer than expected due to a complication, caused by a leak from the pancreas (along the cut-line). I have a drain fitted now (to drain off the pancreatic juices) but I hope to have this removed after a few weeks. The next course of treatment will be determined following an octreotide scan, which I expect to complete in the next few weeks.
In the meantime I’m happy to be home recovering while watching the world cup (even though Ireland did’nt make it to the finals).Regards……………………………….Gerry

I’m sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad and our thoughts are with you and your family at this time……….GerryhollandgMemberHi,
Welcome to this site and stick around, as you will receive really helpful tips to help your friend’s recovery. I was diagnosed with CC last September, located in the distal area close to the pancreas, in the same area as your friend. My first whipple operation failed because I had a temporary infammation of the pancreas, which was not picked up on the scans (complications of this kind are not unusual). Kris mentioned the pillow (to press against the incision when she coughts) – this is an absolute life-saver and eases the pain considerably. My next whipple is scheduled on Thursday the 13th of May. With regard to your question concerning recovery, my surgeon indicated that if all goes to plan and there are no complications, I should expect to be released from hospital after 10 days and that recovery at home would take about 2 months. I don’t expect to be back at work until August. The surgeon warned that complications cannot be ruled out (as the whipple is a very serious procedure), in particular leakages from the incision along the pancreas are common and delay recovery considerably.Hoping all goes well for your friend…………….Gerry

Welcome to the site – I delight stent number 2 is doing its job. I’m on stent number 2 also (which has lasted 5 months), the 1st stent lasted only 1 month (go figure). CC is a rare cancer and its important that your Dad’s medical team have experience of treating this desease and that QE is also experienced. In this respect, there are numerous members from the UK that may guide you. At this stage your Dad’s medical team should be in a position to advise of the exact location, size and treatment plan. Please keep us posted on your Dad’s progress.
Keep well…………………..Gerry

I just finished 6 cycles of chemo (gemzar and oxiplatin), one week on/one week off. The tiredness/fatigue increased throughout the course of the treatment, which I understand is normal. At the moment, one week after the last infusion, I’m completely knackered but I’m learned not to push things…..I’ll bounce back when my body is ready to go again.
