What wonderful news Nancy,
Congratulations!
KatekatjaMemberFantastic news Tom and Ben,
I’m amazed, hope the doctors are studying Ben and learning from him! So pleased for you both to have a chemo free summer.
katjaMemberHi Cindy,
I am also in England. My dad had a whipple in Jan 2010 and was on the Capecitabine arm of the Bilcap trial. He is really well at the moment. You can find some of my posts about it by reading my past posts. You will probably learn that there are not many certainties with CC – some people have chemo and recurrence/no chemo and no recurrence etc etc.
I really hope you are recovering well and would like to help with any advice I can give about the trial.
KatekatjaMemberSincere condolences, Rick was such a brave fighter and a wonderful spirit. My thoughts are with Cindy, Lauren and Carter, and all Rick’s family and friends.

katjaMemberKris,
Good luck to you for Tuesday. Your attitude is great, realistic, positive and inquisitive. Do you know what form the chemo will take? 5-fu? Did you ask about Cyberknife? Lainy raves about it, although not sure about the location near the vein.
We’ll look out for you in the good news section for sure,
KatekatjaMemberHi everyone,
Just thought I should let you know that we made it! Dad’s AMMF fundraising page is currently overkatjaMemberAnd now we start to plan properly for our hiking/racing/partying fundraising for AMMF.
Well done Dad x
katjaMemberKim,
You must have such a sense of relief. Your dad would be so proud that it worked out that way too, I bet!
KatekatjaMemberJen
It looks fantastic, what a wonderful day full of memories. The location looks so beautiful.
KatekatjaMemberGreat news Nancy,
We feel as you, it is so hard when people are receiving bad news. Hopefully there will be people who gain hope from our stories.

katjaMemberAndie,
It all sounded such a fitting tribute to a great man. You and your mum are doing so well. I’m sure you will keep on reminding each other to ‘keep smiling’, leaning on each other when you need it. I can’t begin to imagine how hard it must be, but you’re handling everything with grace and strength.
Love Kate
katjaMemberSDas,
I’m so so sorry to hear your news. You will all be devastated. I always find it hard to believe that the first scan could be so wrong in this sort of case. I do think a second opinion could help, if only to back up the view of no surgery. There are people who have seen tumours shrink through chemo enough to be resected. I suppose this would depend on the extent of spread.
You have already been a remarkable friend. Hoping that you will get some sort of game plan and a way forward soon.
KatekatjaMemberHi Jen
Happy birthday to your dad. The outing to his bench sounds particularly memorable – I’d love to see the location. And love your dad’s humour. With plenty of good wishes for his CT results tomorrow.

katjaMemberHi Randi
I’m glad you posted, and cautiously pleased at your recent biopsy. I remember the day before my dad’s whipple the surgeon held us all in suspense for a few minutes whilst he checked a ‘spot’ on my dad’s liver. He quickly came to the conclusion that ‘it’s just a benign thing, the sort of thing most of us have on our livers, but would never notice’. I’m wondering if he would call this inflammation.
Lets really hope so, and hoping that you are continuing to do well.
KatekatjaMemberHi SDas,
Glad to hear things sounds so positive in your friend’s diagnosis (whilst still remembering that your friend needs to recover from massive surgery). My dad (Malc2073) had the same diagnosis and a very successful surgery – although they did find that some lymph nodes had been infected microscopically. They can never know this until after the histological reports.
The whipple always takes the head of the pancreas – there was apparently some research which found that bile duct resections were not as favourable as whipple (pancreaticodudenectomy). Do be prepared for a scary few days after the operation but do trust in your surgeons – ours were amazing.
I’m sure my dad would be happy to relate the positives to your friend – when he’s not busy swimming, walking or taking my increasingly active baby off my hands.
