Good Morning Fun Seekers! I have a silly question. Can you tell me what the norm is in getting Radiation scheduled…I mean how long does it take? We were told a few days and that was Tuesday and today is Friday and no word. Yes, I have no patience (patients) and that is why I am not a doctor!!!

Stacie, beautiful Newsletter, well done! While I was in my thinking room this morning I came up with an idea. Since we are from all parts of the Globe, what about having a meeting place on our site listing who is from where? Say, if we wanted to contact someone in our area, if they wanted to be contacted. Not sure I explained this right but I think you can get the gist of it.

Thanks Patty. What I have discovered through these 3 years is that when handed news we do not like, we talk and think about it and usually within a day we have regrouped with new battle plans. Once a new plan is in place its like that was what was needed, just a plan. Not that we sit here doing nothing.
Just waiting now for the schedule of Radiation and we will be on our way. I guess I don’t want to waste valuable time with my own pity parties, how ever deserved they may be. And today…is our 14th Wedding Anniversary. 3 Years ago didn’t know if we would make that. We are grateful for the additional time.
Last night we talked about making the 25th!!!!

Jeff, you crack me up (along with the cracking of Lobster). Teddy wanted to know if you had any side effects from the IMRT as the doc said they would be minimal. Thanks for your update on that, it made him smile after the bad news.

Debrah, life is so weird! I think Jeff is right on. Everyone handles things their own way and who is to say which way is right. I have a husband (for 14 years now) who truly did it his way his whole life. Then we got married and now he is the one with CC and here I am directing the whole orchestra! He does not talk about it much, I am the one who talks, does the research, sets up the appointments and I have to drill him as to how he is feeling. His kids are all adults and they have been great, never second guessing me at all. I talk openly with them as well as with mine. I need to talk but that is my way of handling it. This site is a great place to “talk” it out and someone will always have a fantastic answer and someone will always listen. If the family will not talk then talk to us, or e mail privately and also talk to your friends. We wish you the best of news tomorrow and keep in mind there is always one more scene to play! I also believe that when things get bad somehow we will know what to say and what to do.

This time the news could be better…Just got a call from the Cyber Knife Oncologist. CIGNA will not allow the surgery as Teddy has not had any other radiation yet! Such stupid, ignorant rules!!! The PET Scan showed that the mass is there as we knew and that some lymph nodes that did not light up in the scan do look worrisome. Plan of attack is IMRT Radiation for 5 weeks and then ask CIGNA again. So, tonight we will reorganize our thoughts and once again hope for the best and do a lot of praying!! Something nice though has happened. Teddy’s kids have decided to have a family reunion over Labor Day weekend here in Phoenix and so far we have 23 people coming in!! SWEET!
But in the end how can an insurance company put stipulations on a life saving procedure!!!

Hi Jeff: I have been writing for a couple weeks now on Vitamin C Intravenous.
My daughter’s fiance has Lymphoma and has been doing the C for 8 months now along with his chemo. He NEVER got sick from the chemo. He is doing quite well and is in remissions. While not a cure, he does feel it has helped immensely. He has also met others with all forms of cancer and in fact one with CC and they all feel the C has helped. Usually the Naturalpathic doc works right along with your ONC and the only downside is Insurance Companies have not approved it yet. There is a clinic in Phoenix (Scottsdale) called Envita. Their web site is interesting.

Hello Violarob: My husband’s count after his Whipple 3 years ago was always about 17. In February it went to 37, April to 43 and the end of April to 60. We felt something was “brewing” but nothing showed. The beginning of May he had an MRI instead of a CT Scan and it showed cancer had returned to where his duodenum used to be. With this said, he is having cyber knife next month and the doctor feels that he will get the little demon once again. I guess to me logically, if the number is higher than it should be then something is happening that should not be.

Hi Irene: My husband had a Whipple Surgery almost 3 years ago at the age of 72. We were visiting our children and he jaundiced and we had no time to think about this decision. It was do or die. After 4 hours they aborted as his pancreas was literally destroyed from dye that had leaked on it from the endoscopy and the doctor needed a healthy pancreas. 3 weeks later he went in with a double ecoli infection and 9 days after that they did the real Whipple. He was in the hospital 2 weeks. We flew home and he developed a tiny hole at his resection and went to rehab with nothing to eat or drink for a month and the hole healed. So did he. The cancer has returned where his duodenum used to be and he is going to have cyber knife surgery next month. Up to now he has lived a totally normal life still working and golfing. Teddy does not get on the computer but from him to you he says, “Fear is one’s greatest crossroad and that is perfectly normal. Faith in God and the hands of your doctor is what you have to have trust in. Life is a gamble, there are no guarantees. What if you could be one of the lucky ones? Surviving, is wrapped up in a positive attitude. Life is your choice”. And with that said, that is our Miracle Man and we look forward to our next victory.

We are awaiting PET Scan results which we may have tomorrow. My husband’s cancer returned where his duodenum used to be and he is a good candidate for the surgery. The reason for the PET Scan is that the Oncologist will only do it if there are no other “hot” spots. Teddy had a Whipple almost 3 years ago and the CC has just returned. We are in Phoenix and from what we have been told it is the absolute best way to go and of course it is non invasive. Saw a video on it in the doctors office…absolutely amazing!

Hi Larry. We too are in Phoenix. My husband is Miracle Man, posts by Lainy.
You can look it all up in history. He is under the care of Dr. Christopher Manus who has just taken over for John Rubach, who just retired. The office is Desert Oncologists at Banner Desert hospital. We have also seen James Cashman who is Director of transplants at Desert Samaritan but he has done Whipple Surgeries. Presently Teddy is awaiting results of a PET Scan and if that is OK he will have cyber knife (radial) surgery in August to rid the cancer that has returned. The doctor for that is John KResl. We live in Sun Lakes. Oh, our daughter’s fiance who lives in Gilbert, was diagnosed with Lymphoma and has been seeing a Naturopathic doctor in Tempe for Vitamin C intravenously. He is a strong believe in this form of treatment. Please feel free to e mail me or respond on this site. Lainy.

My husband was a Korean War Vet and I understand there was a fish in Asian countries that may have caused CC. I am also wondering if there are other Korean War Vets who have contracted CC. I cannot remember the name of the fish but there were a lot of questions about the fact it carried a parasite.

So sorry about your father, When it comes to the Whipple, I know the word well. My husband had a Whipple almost 3 years ago and had been doing very well. (See Miracle Man …posts by Lainy) In February his CA9-19 started going up monthly but nothing showed until April. The cancer has returned where the duodenum used to be. He had a PET Scan Monday and if there are no other hot spots he will have cyber knife surgery the latest and greatest non invasive surgery. I understand they are also using this on the liver. We have high hopes and you must stay strong. Something new is always just around the corner.
