andyuk…..hello and welcome. Reading through the lengthy posts can be time consuming however, I would like to suggest for you to read up on Professor Peter Lodge in Leeds. He has been treating several patients in the UK. You may enter “Professor Lodge” in the search function and several threads will appear wich I believe are worth reading. Your questions in re: to Dr. Lodge may very well be answered by members on this site, also. So sorry for you having to join us but, so glad for you to have found us. I have never encountered a nicer bunch of people who are so willing to share their experiences while sharing their knowledge with tons of support for each other. My absolute best wishes to your mum and you.

Belle….yes, I have experience with this and so have many others. Presently, I am in Europe however, I will return to the States at the end of the week. You may e-mail me, personally. Keeping your sister comfortable is the most important issue, at this time. Is there a possiblility for you to be tallking to the physician at Hospice? My husband’s vomiting never stopped in fact, it became more pronounced as he neared the end of his life and I have learned and experienced it is not uncommen in the end stages of this disease. My heart goes out to your wonderful sister.

Charlene….hopefully, John is willing to talk to Jeff…..please, try to encourage him to do so. Also, have you called Hospice, personally? They will have an answer to the right approach with John in re: to accepting their help. Hospice encompasses many areas of pallative care and in some instances depending on the patient’s well being will retreat when the patient is stabilized. I called Hospice after explaining to my husband that I was not able to keep him comfortable enough therefore, medications needed to be administered with the help of Hospice. You might be able to come up with another solution however, as I have mentioned, calling Hospice and explaining the situation might be another way to go if John does not want to talk to Jeff who I am sure will have a great man-to-man talk with him. Sending all my love.

Sheryl…congratulations on your successful resection and welcome to our CC family.
We had similar experiences with denial of scans and so have many others. When our physician requested a pet scan – which promptly was denied – he then waited a few weeks and ordered a CT scan, successfully. I am sure for others having tons of information to share with you. So glad for you to have found us.

Lauren…welcome we are happy for you to have joined us. Patty makes many comments of value certainly, don’t feel discouraged as of yet. Please, forward the proposed experimental chemo regiment recommended by the attending physician. Most likely some, if not many others have been prescribed the same medication, already. Also, I might want to check against other information available as generally these chemo regiments are discussed and studies are presented at the major clinical symposiums. Most of all please, don’t give up hope. Also, others may very well share their own experiences in re: to fighting the insurance companies and how they were able to obtain coverage for experimental drugs. There also is a compassionate drug program offered by the Pharmaceutical companies for those patients who are falling in a particular financial bracket.

Kara….I strongly believe for a cure to be out there…we need to push along, to be heard, and to make our cholangiocarcinoma family known to the medical community, and researchers in order to find an early detection and a treatment for this cancer. So sorry for your Mom having joined our loved ones who have lost the battle with this disease. My heart is with you.

kevndevc…….so sorry to hear the news of your Mom’s passing. So many of us can relate to your loss. I am so much hoping for you to be able to treasure the memories allowing your heart to heal….one day at a time. My heart is with you.
It is those people like your Mom, the sisters, brothers, fathers, uncles, husbands, wifes, and children who make us strive to push forward in this quest of finding an answer to this disease. I wish for us to have met under different circumstances but be assured that your Mom is one more reason for us to be fighting harder, yet.

Barbara Ann….so sorry to hear about your Dad’s condition. I so much agree with Jeff as it is difficult for us to hear what our loved one’s are saying when our intentions are to the best and we so much want to make everything o.k. Listening is one of the greatest gift we can give to those who need to be heard. Also, keeping Dad comfortable is in my mind the most important thing you can do for him. Vomiting can be relelentless while the cancer is progressing. If you are able to do so it might help to read through some of the threads discussing this problem. Under “search” enter “vomiting” and you will be able to read up on others discussing this situation.
Sending tons of hugs your way.

Mercedes…..it is very likely for this treatment to be available in Switzerland. You might want to contact your local physician for referral to a major medical center. Personally, I don’t recall meeting any physician from Switzerland however, the TACE treatment is being discussed and data is being presented at the major conferences which are attended by physicians and researchers from all over the world. Thinking of you and sending my best wishes.

Charlene…..there was no detectable jaundice when my husband passed away, either. Similar to John, he faded away. My heart is with you at this trying time and I am sending to you all my love.
