I pray for Michelle and her family. Please give them strength.
marjoSpectatorOh, makes my heart feel all warm and tingly. Fingers are crossed for continued strength and awareness.
marjoSpectatorI opened my eyes REAL BIG when I started reading your poem in an effort not to cry. Didn’t work. Cried anyway. So lovely.
marjoSpectatorHi Katie: A friend of mine got Gemzar for a year already (for a different type of cancer). Yes, he did lose all his hair, but it came back (even while still on Gemzar). Here’s the clincher, the hair came back dark and soft whereas before it was coarse and salt and pepper. He was 62. So, that was one thing he appreciated. Yes, his tumor shrunk.
marjoSpectatorI’m so glad you found this site. I found it to be very supportive. Feels like hands across the miles (is that a song lyric?) Whenever I sign in and read, it feels like friends huddling close by. They are not offended if you stay quiet or talk your head off. I’m sure a lot of them are mentally putting their arms around you. You are never alone. Your posts brings levity and laughter at a time when we all need it. Thank you.
marjoSpectatorHello Valerie:
I am sorry it is this time for you. Jeff left his mark in a lot of us. If it were possible to see our thoughts and prayers, your home would be crowded and pack with us and our feelings for your and Jeff.
marjoSpectatorHi Pam: My Mom had hospice care at home from a very good company. However, there were still times when it was difficult for my elderly father to take care of her (middle of the night BMs, urination, etc). Couldn’t leave the eliminations alone, they’d burn her skin, but he had no strength to roll her over to clean up. He had/still has congestive heart failure. My sister and I began to stay overnight at their house and were just beginning to arrange to have her in a convalescent home when she slipped into a coma and passed on 3 days later.
Are you the only sibling? Do you have hired caregivers coming to the house to help out?
marjoSpectatorHello Jeff: I’m kind of new and quiet. When I first found this website, I kept seeing your helpful advice and optimism. Though my Mom had already left us, I still kept on reading in the hopes that there is some good news. You were always the good news (even when it was bad). You made a difference to a lot of us. Thank you.
marjoSpectatorMy Mom played with a poker machine. How about a laptop so he/she could play spider solitaire (very addictive), or catch up on tv episodes (hulu), etc.
marjoSpectatorThank you, Marions. Am still learning how to weave in and out of all this site has to offer. You guys are all great supporters. Discovered y’all when my Mom was in hospice already. I’m a bit computer challenged so it took awhile to register but was able to read a lot of what your groups wrote and it helped during puzzling times. Anything I can share now that will help will be posted. Thanks again to all of you.
marjoSpectatorHello: I’m a newbie here but my Mom (who passed on a couple of years ago) used to take Atarax to stop the itching. It worked but made her very sleepy. She was also on Vicodin to suppress any discomfort. Slept alot and passed on without pain.
marjoSpectatorHi! I’m a newbie here. Was a caregiver. Mom had passed on a couple of years ago but she did take Atarax to combat the itchiness. It did make her stop scratching but also sleepy.
