    Hi middlesister,

My daughter was on the chemo your Mom is on. Her hair didn’t completely fall out, but got so thin you could see her scalp. She had it cut really short a few times. Her hair was normally medium brown. It came back almost an orangy color. After another chemo, it fell out again and came back almost black. It took hers a very long time to grow. There are wigs of course, but they can be very hot. Lauren wore hers somewhere once and got so hot that she whipped it off. You can imagine the surprised look on people’s faces. I wish you all the best.

    Hi Connie,

My daughter had back pain quite frequently. I was always concerned she might have a tumor on her spine. Nothing ever showed up on scans and the doctors said it was probably because her liver was enlarged. She took morphine for pain and it did make it more tolerable. I am hoping you find relief.

    Hugs,

    Hi fntn,

I am happy you sought a second opinion at U of M. I have nothing but great things to say about them. I hope you will see Dr. Chris Sonnenday and Dr. Mark Zalupski. They were my daughter’s surgeon and oncologist and are very wonderful doctors that really care about their patients. They have a great deal of experience with CC as well. I’m sure they will come up with a great game plan for treating you. I am wishing you all the best.

    Hi Jules,

I think the surgery you are speaking about is the same surgery Lauren had. We were told up front that it was very radical. Her surgeon said he went to a conference and talked to many top liver surgeons and the room was split as to whether they would do it or not. Lauren chose to have the surgery and have a chance at a normal life. The second surgeon you saw obviously was from the side of the room that wouldn’t do it. The only person that knows if it is right for them and wants to go for it is the patient. After going through this with Lauren, I’m not sure another opinion would do anything but make you more confused. I think you have to go with your gut instinct and like Lauren’s surgeon said, “If you are in, you are all in. There is no room for doubt.” We asked him if it were his daughter, would he want her to have the surgery and he said yes. Sending prayers that your Mum finds the directon she wants to take.

    Love,

    Hi January,

My Lauren also had seizures (febrile) which were caused by high fevers when she was a toddler. She outgrew them by age 5, but was on medication for those years. She was on phenobarbital, not Tegretol. You may be on to something because it sounds very similar. My daughter was diagnosed with cc at age 25.

    Hi Porter,

What you are feeling is so normal. Try to focus on the fact that you are so blessed and lucky to be able to have surgery. Most on this site would love to be in your shoes and I’m sure many are quite jealous. You have been given the gift of hope! Hope for getting to spend time with your children and enjoy life! I know it is easier said than done, but try and focus on the good of what this surgery can bring rather than what can go wrong. I wish you all the best and will be praying for everything to turn out fantastic! Remember, deep breaths and positive thoughts!!

    Dear January,

I don’t think the anticipation before or after scans ever gets easier. It is such a huge deal!! I remember the sick feeling before the scans and while waiting for the results. I also remember the joy or heartbreak after finding out the results. Here’s to only having JOY!!!!

    Hugs and love,
    -Pam
