    Hi Lainy,

You sure did hit the nail on the head with me. I am having a very hard time this year. I feel nothing really brings me joy. I miss Lauren more than I ever imagined and I think about her all the time. I talk to her all the time too and have had many winks from her!! I am mourning the loss of her and the loss of our happy family. It seems all of us are trying to be happy, but just not quite making it happen. I sure hope time will heal our deep, tremendous pain in our hearts. I am so sorry for all of you that have lost loved ones or have loved ones that are sick or if you are the one with this cancer. It is such a cruel disease. I hope in my lifetime a cure is found. Bless you all and know that I think of all of you often.

    Love,
    -Pam

I’m really sorry your husband is having so much nausea and vomiting. Have you tried taking the compazine every four hours around the clock and not just when nauseated. We found that if Lauren took compazine once she was nauseated, she usually threw it up.When she had chemo, she took it around the clock for a few days and it helped her a lot. I am hoping you find something that works because feeling constantly nauseated must be a horrible feeling. My heart goes out to both of you.

    Dorien,

I gave you the most honest answer I could. Y-90 was not a last resort for Lauren. As I said before, it did help her and killed all her tumors. Everyone on this board tries to help everyone as best they can. I, for one, cannot spend 24/7 on here. It is difficult enough for me to come on here and try to give people comfort. We all volunteer our time here. Everyone else is in the same boat and scared. You said you wanted to hear from some “real people”. I’m as real as it gets. I could have left this group after my daughter died, but I wanted to stick around and help others by sharing our experiences. I hope you were just in a bad mood the day you wrote your post, because if you really feel the way you say about this board, it deeply hurts my feelings. You will never find a more kind and compassionate group. Cancer sucks. I know it. You know it. I am sorry you are having such a difficult time. My heart goes out to you, Kyle, and your family.

    Hi Desiree,

I understand how you are feeling as I lost my dear daughter, Lauren in June. It is so difficult to deal with grief and different things really set me off. My husband and I were going through some of Lauren’s things a few weeks ago. I thought I smelled her cologne and I lifted one of her sweaters to my nose and it smelled just like she used to smell. I cried and cried for hours. I understand your pain and am feeling it too. Just know there are people that care and hopefully one day we will be happy again. Much love and many hugs to you, dear Desiree.

    Hi Mary,

I am sorry to hear about your latest scans. Hopefully, the Gem/Cis will help. I think that is the chemo combo that helped my daughter, Lauren, the most. As for the constipation issue, other than what others have already suggested, have you tried glycerine suppositories? Lauren had some success with those. I know constipation can make a person feel awful. I hope you get it back under control. Prayers for you.

    Hi Snowbird,

When my daughter, Lauren, had chemo her platelets had to be 100 or over to get it. If hers was low, she would not be able to have it and her doctor would tell her to rest and be extra careful around sharp things. Low platelets can cause lots of bleeding if you get a cut. Lauren swore that Gatorade made her platelets go up, but her doctor always laughed at her and shook his head. It was probably just coincidence, but if she had to skip a chemo, she would drink lots of Gatorade and her platelets would be very good the next time. We asked about getting blood and her doctor did not agree with this. He said that platelets might increase for a bit, but they would drop right back down. Better to let you build them back up on your own. Different doctors have different thoughts on things, so I would check with Ron’s doctor. All the best to you both.

    Hi Dorien,

My Lauren had Y-90. She did well with it. She had pain in the groin area afterwards because they have to apply pressure for a long time. She also developed a pain in her chest whenever she hiccuped or burped. it lasted for quite some time and I even called her doctor at home to make sure she wasn’t having a heart attack or something. They think some of the beads might have gotten in her chest or a nerve was involved. But it did go away and they really didn’t know what happened, so I am assuming it was a rare side effect. She was tired afterwards for a few days. She had the side done that had multiple smaller tumors. Her scans came back that they were still there, but they looked kind of weird. When Lauren had her surgery, the surgeon found out that all of these tumors were dead, so it did work on them. I am wishing you and Kyle all the best. I am very hopeful that it will help Kyle. I check your blog every day and really enjoy reading it. Your writing style is quite unique. I have sat sobbing quite frequently after reading your posts. Keep up the great work and God bless you and your dear family.
