    Eli,

That’s exactly the news I was hoping for! So glad to hear she is doing well.

    Suzy,

I was on Gem/Cis and handled it pretty well other than it destroyed my blood counts. I only had 6 cycles, so I’m sure the effect is cumulative. I had radiation with Xeloda and had terrible acid reflux/vomiting, but I think it was from the radiation. I’ve never been on Gemzar combined with Xeloda, but from what I understand those are both milder than Cisplatin. But everyone is different. I know hand/foot syndrome can be common with Xeloda, especially the higher doses.
I’m glad to hear you’ve done so well on chemo.

Take care and keep us posted!

Eli, how does your wife feel? What’s day to day life like for her? I remember our treatment was pretty similar.
I feel pretty good. I am up to 125lbs! I was 118 before I get sick and went down to 104lbs at my worst during radiation.
I take omeprazole for acid reflux. I was off it for a while, but seemed to need to clear my throat frequently, so I went back on it. I take Creon with meals. Not sure if it helps or not, but it doesn’t bother me, so I stay on it. The reason I started it was for floating stools. but no other symptoms.
I work from home full time. I am pretty active again. I run frequently, just around 3 miles, but I’m thankful to be able to do that.
Overall, I’m very pleased with my post treatment life. You would think it would be much worse considering everything my body has been through.
I hope your wife is feeling good! I think of you both often.

    Take care,

    Susie

Thanks for responding. It is an interesting topic and a topic I wish I didn’t have to think about at 33, that’s for sure!

Has anyone seen the documentary? I’m thinking of watching it since it involves a CC patient, but I know it will be terribly sad and difficult.

    Take care,

Pam, I’m sorry Lauren isn’t feeling so hot yet, but it’s great that her blood work is normal. And I’m so happy the dr’s don’t think it’s ascites. I was so worried she was going to be readmitted. Glad she gets to recover at home instead of in the hospital.

Take care and keep us posted!

    Kristina,

I’m sorry to hear of your mom’s condition. There may be some options for her. For example, if she needs a gastric tube placed to drain the content of her stomach, they may be able to place a feeding tube lower than that, for example the jejunum. Another option is TPN which is IV nutrition.
I think it would be important to ask her what her wishes are. There are many who do not wish to receive nutrition in this manner. I hope they can continue to keep her comfortable.

    Take care,

    Susie

I would talk to the Dr about it if it doesn’t improve, they may need to up her lasix.
Make sure she is up and moving around. When she sits, have her elevate her legs.
She should eat lots of protein, it is important for recovering from surgery.
    Eggs are good for example.

In the hospital, we used to give a lot of SPA (salt poor albumin) followed by lasix. It draws the fluid into the vascular space and then the lasix pushes it out, but this is an IV infusion.

Take care and keep us posted.
