I have a port and am so thankful for it. I have lots of veins but it seems they are pretty tiny. After my surgery I had 5 iv’s infiltrate in one day, so the port decision was easy for me. The last thing I need is chemo infiltrating in my arm, you know? Plus, it is easily hidden. No one knows I have it and it’s very convenient. I went swimming today and you wouldn’t be able to do that if you had something like a PICC. And the insertion is easy and it’s just a tiny poke when they access it. The least of my worries!
Take care and best of luck!Susie
wallsm1SpectatorThat’s such great news! Very happy for you both!

wallsm1SpectatorWow, that is a roller coaster! Wishing him a smooth recovery and a negative biopsy!
Take care,
Susie
wallsm1SpectatorI bring ginger tea with me to chemo and have a cup the morning after also. I’m not sure if it’s the ginger that is helping, but I don’t have to take any anti nausea meds. I’ll take ginger over steroids any day!

wallsm1SpectatorHi everyone. I got my liver resection at University of Pittsburgh David Geller (wonderful)
However I live in Portland Oregon, therefore my oncologist is Gina Vaccaro
Best of Luck!
Susiewallsm1SpectatorGlenda,
I’m very sorry about your husband’s diagnosis. In regards to your question about nutrition, I drank 2 ensures a day after my liver resection to help gain my weight back. They were easy to get down even though I wasn’t really hungry. Best of luck to you!
wallsm1SpectatorSo it turns out, I am a tricky patient. LOL. My WBC’s have been a little low, so they have been adjusting my chemo accordingly. Last week my WBC was around 3, I took 6 doses of Neupogen and today it was 52.5, can you believe it?? I’m a nurse and I’ve never seen a WBC count that high. Apparently, I am making my oncologist work for her money.
Other than that, chemo is going just fine, no side effects. I don’t vomit and still have my hair. I just got my 4th dose today. I think 2 more doses then on to radiation.Take Care everyone,
Susiewallsm1SpectatorRachael,
I’m so sorry to hear of your mother’s diagnosis. I see you are in Columbus. Maybe check out UPMC or Cleveland Clinic to see if they have any options?? I recently received a liver resection at UPMC and they have some experience dealing with this cancer. Take care and keep us posted.
Best Wishes,
Susiewallsm1SpectatorWishing you the best of luck with your surgery and a quick recovery! Keep us posted when you are up to it!

wallsm1SpectatorI’m sorry to hear about your husband and understand your frustration with the medical system. I’m a nurse also and went to the ER one day with epigastric pain. They thought it was my gallbladder but that was ruled out on US. They told me I had either food poisoning or a stomach flu and have some unrelated spots on my liver that need worked up as an outpatient. So, long story short, those spots turned out to be a mass the size of a credit card, which turned out to be cholangiocarcinoma. I spent a lot of time fighting with my PCP’s office to order me a CT scan and then an MRI and then to call me with the results. The MRI was inconclusive and the radiologist recommended a biopsy. My doctor never even called me to tell me. The receptionist is the one who told me to come in for an appointment because my imaging was inconclusive. One would think if you have a newly discovered liver mass, you would get a phone call from your Dr, but I guess not.
Your husband is lucky to have you to advocate for him. It’s hard navigating around the medical system. Do they have a treatment plan for him yet?wallsm1SpectatorGood for you, Sue!
I am starting adjuvant chemo next week with Gemzar and Cisplatin.
Take care!
