Farid N. Kutayli

February 10, 1944 – July 18, 2017

  • Dr. Farid Kutayli fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday July 18, 2017. 

  • Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Friend. Farid N. Kutayli was born on February 10, 1944 in Haifa, Palestine to Nour and Asma (Hanna) Kteily.

  • Farid graduated from the American University of Beirut (AUB) medical school in 1970. He was united in marriage to Salwa Kirreh of Beirut, Lebanon in 1972. He completed Fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiology at the Mayo Clinic in 1976 and worked for many years as the sole pediatric cardiologist at the AUB in Lebanon during the Lebanese civil war. In 1990, he moved to Sioux Falls, SD where he proudly helped develop the Pediatrics program at Avera McKennan Hospital. He served as Chief of Staff at Avera McKennan from 2007-2009.

  • Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Salwa; three sons, Ziad Nour (Teresa) Kutayli of Westfield, MA, Walid Michael (Amber) Kutayli of Lincoln, NE and Wa’el Anthony Kutayli of New York, NY; grandchildren, James Farid, Katherine and Eleanor Kutayli of Lincoln, NE; brother, Fouad (Nuhad) Kteily of Beirut, Lebanon and their families; sister, Nuhad Kteily of Beirut, Lebanon; his beloved extended family of the Arab American community of Sioux Falls, SD and the countless young patients whose hearts he helped heal. He is preceded in death by parents, Nour and Asma.

  • He was dearly loved, and will be greatly missed. May his Memory Be Eternal.

  • Funeral Service 10:00 am Monday, July 24 at Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1936 S. Summit with interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation with family present 5:00 – 7:00 pm Sunday, July 23, 2017 with Trisagion Service beginning at 6:00 pm at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls, SD.
