Richard Thomas “Tom” Meinert II

March 22, 1977  – June 19, 2018

  • Richard Thomas “Tom” Meinert II, 41, of Annandale, Virginia passed away on June 19, 2018 from a rare and aggressive form of cancer, cholangiocarcinoma. He was born to Mary Ann Yekinni (Rice) and Richard Thomas Meinert I on March 22, 1977. Tom is survived by his wife Julia (Pence); his children, parents, and brother Ian (Elta); along with many nieces and nephews. His family was by his side when he left us.

  • He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1997 and later retired as a Staff Sergeant in 2013, having traveled the world, and being sent to the War in Iraq. His military decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

  • In 2014, Tom graduated top of the class in the Police Academy in Aurora, Colorado, but was unable to pursue that career due to injuries accrued while serving on active duty. Continuing the desire to help others, he again was the top of his class and valedictorian at MedTech College in 2015, securing his final career managing the office of a local medical practice.

  • “I am an expert of EVERYTHING and a master of NOTHING”

  • Tom enjoyed scuba diving, working on his motorcycle, and being with friends and family. Most of all, though, he enjoyed being twinsies with his oldest son. Tom will always be remembered as a master manipulator in the kitchen: he effortlessly seduced his family and guests with carefully-crafted meals while finessing his love into every plate.
