Wayne Elmer McKendry age 76 of Cary, NC, born on January 23, 1943 in Ionia, Michigan. The son of Elmer and Alice (Howe) McKendry. He retired from the airlines in 2003 as a senior Boeing 777 Captain at Continental Airlines. In his post retirement years, he spent time with his family and friends, and loved to fly small general aviation aircraft such as his personal Beech Debonair BE33 that he shared ownership of with his two airline pilot sons Chris and Scott. He enjoyed restoring cars with his kids, was an avid fisherman and got so much pleasure walking his 3 beloved Scottish Terrier dogs. He was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Cary.

Wayne’s battle with cholangiocarcinoma began in 2012. His faith in God, love for life and family encouraged him to keep fighting. He endured multiple clinical trial chemotherapy treatments and such to aid in his fight. Although the fight wore him down at times, he never complained or seemed to slow down in his daily life.
-
Wayne lost the battle on November 18th, 2018. God granted him his final wish, as he was accompanied by loving family, at home, at his bedside, by his loving wife of 56 years Polly, and his children, Chris, Scott and Anne.

To honor Wayne, and to help fund research to find a cure for those still fighting, please make a donation in lieu of flowers.
