Jingfan Huang
Jingfan Huang was a loving and quietly courageous woman who always described her life as a miracle. She came from humble roots in her beloved city of Hangzhou, China and immigrated to the US in the 1980s to obtain her PhD in analytical chemistry. To her own surprise, when she began her doctoral studies, she fell in love with and married a man with whom she would have and raise three children. This and all of Jingfan’s other accomplishments as a career woman and family caretaker she attributed to “pure luck”, never having planned or imagined such a life. Those close to her would come to a different conclusion, knowing very well the iron will and intelligence that propelled Jingfan through her life’s path.
As fate would have it, Jingfan was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma on February 12, 2019 – International Cholangiocarcinoma Awareness Day. Since her diagnosis, Jingfan never stopped living her life to the fullest. She broke milestones with her diagnosis, battling her cancer bout by bout so she could travel the world, start up a company with her husband, and see her youngest child off to college.
On December 1, 2020, Jingfan laid down her fight against cancer and died at home surrounded by family. Her spirit was strong to the very end. In lieu of flowers, she would like friends to donate to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation in her memory so that this organization can support patients like her and develop better treatments for the future. She is survived by her husband Zhi; her three children Becky, Zack, and Ashley; and her two siblings, Hao Yong and Lu Yun.
