Jingle for Janet 2023

The Jingle for Janet Fundraiser, an annual event dedicated to honoring the memory of Janet Parker and raising funds for cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) research, took place on December 23, 2023, in Waterford, Wisconsin. The event has become one of the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation’s (CCF) longest-running community fundraisers, organized by Janet’s husband, Eric Parker, marking its sixth consecutive year.

In 2018, Eric Parker initiated the race as a special tribute to his late wife, Janet. The event not only commemorates Janet’s life but also serves as a means to contribute to vital CCA research and patient services. Over the years, the Jingle for Janet Fundraiser has garnered tremendous support, with 100% of the proceeds dedicated to advancing CCA research and supporting patients.

This 2023 event proved exceptional, raising over $10,000 – the highest amount ever recorded in the history of the race. The fundraiser has amassed $45,000 since its inception, underlining the community’s commitment to combating cholangiocarcinoma.

Reflecting on the event’s success, Eric Parker expressed his gratitude for the favorable weather, with temperatures in the 40s, providing an ideal setting for the participants. Parker noted the “Overwhelming Christmas joy and love permeating Waterford’s streets as family, friends, and neighbors came together to run and walk in support of the cause.”

The camaraderie was palpable, as Parker shared, “People are always very gracious and supportive of this cause because proceeds go to fund research for Cholangiocarcinoma through the Foundation.”

The smooth execution of the event, coupled with the enthusiastic support from the community, resulted in an outstanding turnout. In addition to the impressive fundraising achievements, the Jingle for Janet Fundraiser saw 25 age group course records being set, showcasing the dedication and athleticism of the participants. Approximately 167 individuals participated on-site in Waterford, supported by 20 volunteers, with several other onlookers contributing to the festive atmosphere. There were approximately 20 virtual participants, the furthest being in South Korea.

For those interested in participating in the next event on Sat., December 21, or supporting the cause, the race updates and information will be available via the event’s Facebook page.

As Eric Parker continues to honor the memory of his late wife through this annual event, the Jingle for Janet Fundraiser stands as a testament to the community’s steadfast support for cholangiocarcinoma research and the hope for a future free from this disease.
