    Brigitte,

I completely understand where you’re coming from regarding managing emotions and I think what you are feeling is very common. When my husband starts getting anxious about what might come next, I remind him that despite all the negative information about this disease, we have gotten through with good results and will continue to do so.

I attended the recent CC Foundation’s stakeholder’s conference and one thing I was so very impressed by was how many patients we met that are currently unresectable, or had surgery but now have recurrence , and have moved on to other treatments with good results. These options didn’t exist a few years ago. It is so inspiring to me to know that more and more treatments are becoming available. I’m sure having a recurrence feels devastating. However, letting go of the “what if’s” and focussing on options for next steps and trying to stay positive may lessen your stress. I also agree with Lainy that an anti-anxiety medication may help you cope better. I think it is very common for cancer patients to utilize the benefits of this type of medication.
    Wishing you all the best,
    Debbie

Exciting. Early detection of initial cc or recurrance, as we know, can have a significant positive impact on treatment outcomes.

Daisy, awesome news. You and your Mom are demonstrating that staying calm and finding the next best treatment is the way to go with this disease. I hope the SBRT keeps it dead in it’s tracks permanently.

Nancy, I am so sorry to hear that your Ron has passed. I am glad that he had so many quality years after diagnosis. Nevertheless, it is still so painful to lose a dear one. May you treasure all the time you had together and may you find comfort in all of your wonderful memories.

Patricia, welcome to our CC family. I am sorry you have reason to find us, but am so glad you did. My first bit of advice is that, yes this is a scary diagnosis, but please ignore the statistics and what you may read on line at other sites. CC is a rare disease and many medical practitioners are not knowledgeable about the las test research and treatments offered. Many patients on this site are doing far better than the statistics would suggest. My second piece of advice is to make sure your family member is being treated by a center that has expertise in CC. There are a number of such centers listed on the main part of the CC Foundation website. Best wishes to your family.

Gary, I also attended the conference and completely agree with your comments. Well said! Our family is so grateful that the brilliant minds and passionate volunteers are working collaboratively to develop improved diagnosis and treatment options. Because of these capable and caring folks, the future is brighter.

Congrats to you on reaching eight years of survival of this awful disease. Wish you many more healthy years!

Matt, good news all around! I’m so happy that your labs are returning to normal and there was a logical reason for the temporary elevation.

I’ve told my husband Mike your story and all about your treatment successes. He and I are both looking forward to meeting you in person in SLC.
