It sounds like there is a lot of fundraising and awareness raising going on! In the face of something so ugly, that makes me so happy.
Something we are doing is delivering brochures to area hospitals and cancer clinics. We felt so scared and alone after dad’s diagnosis, and of course there is no one right there telling you they have been there, too. Hopefully my small job of delivering those brochures can help people connect with this lovely group easier.
Also, has anyone ordered several hundred of the bracelets? Wondering how much time I need to give to get that many. I want to hand them out at our event.
goodheartedmommyMemberI’m not tiff but that’s my baby girl and thanks. She sure loves her poppop. By the way, the video was all her. No one told her what to say!

This is my four year old daughter. We made the video to share on the facebook page we made for my dad. Someone whose dad has cc.saw it on facebook, and I’ve had over 30 friends share it. Our fundraiser is focusing on really raising awareness.

goodheartedmommyMemberWhat wonderful news!
goodheartedmommyMemberWonderful news. Her story has been on my mind since I first read about it–she’s only a few years younger than I am.
goodheartedmommyMemberThis brought a smile to my face tonight.
goodheartedmommyMemberI am so very sorry for your loss. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
goodheartedmommyMemberyou both will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers today and in the coming days.
goodheartedmommyMemberHi. Dad is in Lexington, KY. Here are his doctors:
Oncologist: Dr. Willliam Camp, Lexington Clinic
Surgeon: Dr. William Walton
Radiologist: Dr. Shailendra ChopraThough it’s a smaller clinic than the major cancer centers, we can’t say enough good things about his doctors and the care he’s gotten there.
Second opinions:
University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center. Dr. Philip A. DeSimone.
Cleveland Clinic: Dr. Dale Shepard
We really, really liked Dr. Shepard. We left the appointment with more clarity about the situation than we’d had in the 2 months since dad’s diagnosis.
goodheartedmommyMemberI’ll be sticking around. I also told my mom about this forum, so she may join, too.
It’s great to find a group of people who can relate to what you’re feeling.
Thanks for all of the kind words; I truly appreciate them.
goodheartedmommyMemberDad just ran the half in Indy this past May. I was just telling my mom last night that awhile back I still realized I had the text notifications they send you when they pass checkpoints–I just can’t bring myself to delete it and have been looking at it a lot.
He has been to two local cancer centers (here in Lexington, KY. One was a smaller cancer clinic and one was UK’s cancer center). His other opinion was at Cleveland. His oncologist at the smaller center had consulted with Mayo, as well. The smaller clinic is where he is being treated, but the treatment plan the doctor had was what the other centers agreed on (and that Dad was comfortable with–Cleveland wanted to start with radiation, but Dad was not comfortable with that).
His original treatment was 2 weeks on/1 week off of gemcitabine, with carboplatin every 3 weeks. Now he is getting 3 weeks of gemcitabine with 1 week off, and then cisplatin. He had his first infusion of that on Monday, and hit the road Monday night for work (he travels a lot for his job, and it’s what he loves doing). As of now, he says he doesn’t feel sick, just a little funny.
I’m not sure when his next scan is. The radiologist and oncologist didn’t agree at first and were working that out.
Thanks for taking the time to welcome me
