SpectatorI am on Anthem/Blue Cross/Blue shield. My complaint is that COBRA is really expensive, but maybe it is just because I’m not used to paying my portion ofo the premium. I have not been denied any treatments so far. My yearly deductible is $2000.00. My co-pays are $5/$10 for precriptions.
Therefore I am also very hesitant to get on to the government run health care bandwagon. I too am afraid that care will have to be rationed. I have CT scans every three months. Pretty sure that won’t happen under Obamacare.
As Jamie said, it would be more cost effective and a more efficient use of scarse gov’t resources to just let those of us with poor prognosises just die. But we are not statistics. Several of us have lived years with radiation/chemo treatments. I’m going to be a 2 year survivor next month. If I hadn’t had those treatments, and hosptializations when I got infections, I wouldn’t be here right now.
My healthcare team – oncologists, gastroenterologists, and most especially nurses have provided excellent care these past 2 years, and my hat’s off to them.

SpectatorI feel your pain, Jaimie! It’s either a slap in the face or a kick in the butt. The whole financial thing adds insult to injury. I get sooo annoyed at the Susan B. Komen Foundation and other foundations specifically for breast cancer, because it is as though other cancers don’t exist for them. Yet we have the same problems, if not more, than people fighting breast cancer. Hell, we have to be on chemo the rest of our lives! I’d be HAPPY to lose a breast or two if it meant that my cancer would be gone. But we have to lose a LIVER to get rid of our cancer. Which of course means DEATH if a transplant is not available.
Vent over.

SpectatorI’m so glad to hear things are going well for you and your mom. You all must be very excited about the baby. I remember when you were wondering about getting pregnant. I’m so glad you decided to go for it!

SpectatorI had external radiation at the beginning of my fight. I think it worked for me. It’s rough on your body, but it can also prolong your life.

SpectatorHi Elaine,
For starters, I think it is important to follow the Anticancer diet. I have been forced to modify my diet to eat more easily digestible foods, and am almost vegitarian in my diet now.No one knows how quickly this cancer can spread. It might be quick or he may be one of the lucky ones like Kris and I with a lazy tumor. I’ve been stage 4 for a long time now. Stage 4 is not an immediate death sentence. It’s just a way of describing cancer.
I’m glad Gary feels better, and my best wishes for both of you!
Love,
Lisalisa
SpectatorI’m so glad you are there! Keep up the good work in the fight for a cure!

SpectatorThanks for the kind words! I obtained a copy of my scan report and sure enough, there is no progression and there is stable disease.
I did find one phrase puzzling and didn’t have a chance to talk to my doctor about it:
“Left lobe is small and heterogeneous in enhancement pattern”
I need a translator!
“IMPRESSION:
Unchanged appearance from the most recent prior study. Mutiple bilateral small pulmonary nodules and heterogeneous enhancement pattern in a small left hepatic lobe again noted.”I think that means that the many lung nodules haven’t changed, and that there is some kind of tumor growth noted in the left lobe of the liver.

SpectatorGod bless all who have lost fathers, husbands, sons and brothers on this Father’s Day.

SpectatorAwesome news! Let’s pray he stays cancer free forever!

SpectatorI hear ya, Jamie. If we are going to fight, we need doctors to fight along side with us.
I have a scan/chemo/dr visit next week and as always I’m a little nervous about the results.
To be honest, I want to fight, but the fight is wearing me out.

SpectatorI guess what burns me is that when I talked to my benefits advisor – a guy who is a laywer with and advanced degree mind you – he told me that I would be eligible for the discount. So going on the info he gave me I figured that although money would be tight, I could afford to quit.
Then I was denied. I called my former employer and THEN he said that it only applied if I was laid off. Gee, thanks for letting me know!
I just put in an application for review today. Apparently, the program applies if you are WILLING and ABLE to work but was laid off. Since I am WILLING to work, but not ABLE to work, I hope that the denial will be reversed.
This is what happens when you quickly jam through legislation without thinking the whole thing through. People fall through the cracks. And I agree, something has to be done. I’m not sure what.
lisa
SpectatorHi G,
I was told that the program that helps pay 65% of Cobra ONLY applies to people who have been laid off.It does not apply to people who have to terminate due to health reasons.
We’re falling through the cracks again!
lisa
SpectatorI’m so sorry, Danielle.

SpectatorI’m with Kris. Jill, if it were me, I would go see my beloved aunt before it is too late. God bless you in what ever decision you make.
I know that it’s hard, hard, hard. But you are not alone.

SpectatorMy next scan is on June 23. I am hoping for no progression or change. I did read some of Jeff’s old posts on Taxotere. It seems to be pretty well tolerated, although it does make a lot of people lose their hair.
