ModeratorHi,
So happy to hear the chemo is working. On the ports, I have Mom with CC and Dad with lung cancer. With Mom, we still regret to this day that we did not get the port sooner. She went through pain and anxiety that we could have avoided. In addition to the chemo, there are still the quarterly scans that they access the port for. And, unfortunately we have had many doctors tell us that the veins get brittle with chemo and they do not bounce back.
With Dad’s chemo, we were not given the option- oncologist said port was needed (and we knew we wanted it).
Now that we are so fortunate that Mom is in remission, she does have to get the port flushed every 6 weeks when it hasn’t been used, but she says it’s simple – she will never give up her port. And,having it flushed from lack of use is pretty great problem to have.
Best wishes,

ModeratorLainy,
You know there is enough going on with people here- it really would be ok for you to just moderate and not have to have procedures too.Love and prayers coming your way for an uneventful surgery and quick recovery-

This made my day – such absolutely wonderful news. My husband just came into the den and asked why I was crying and I was able to tell him they’re happy tears- so very thrilled for you and your family.

ModeratorKris,
I hate when posts make me mad and this one does- so sorry it didn’t go smoothly and that from here on you start feeling better and find the next treatment that will let you get back to “normal” life.
Best wishes,

ModeratorDear Georgia,
For so many, it takes a long time just to get used to the diagnosis and learning what cholangiocarcinoma is. I’m am so deeply sorry that it took your beloved mother from you. And, do not be too hard on yourself- you are going through a tremendous loss.
Take care of yourself,

ModeratorHello,
Saw this in news today- very sad and she was very young. Headline said rare cancer and article says cancer of the bile ducts.

ModeratorDear Kathi,
So many of us never heard of cholangiocarcinoma until they or a loved one was diagnosed.
My mother is the patient and has never joined the board, but there are so many patients here as well as caregivers. And, there are many who have formed bonds and continue to communicate not only here on the board, but through phone calls or we see patients who live nearby each other getting together. Unlike other types of caner with large support groups, we are rare, but I am always so amazed by the compassion and caring of our members. One note- my mother was also inoperable due to vena cava proximity- she was diagnosed in Oct 2013 and is doing great. Please tell your friend there is hope.
Take care,
Catherinemiddlesister1
ModeratorKathy,
I am SO happy for you and your family. I can’t wait until good news like this is the norm for CC patients. I also hope to see the insurance fights lessen, but thank you for fighting it. It not only affects your life and family, but hopefully will help to help those coming after you trying to get approval.
Best wishes doesn’t come close to expressing the continued health and happiness I wish for you and family-
Catherine

ModeratorTiah,
You brought up a lot of good questions which I don’t know the answers, but will share my Mom’s experience with SIRT. It was supposed to be just a one-day procedure (Feb 2014), but not all of the tumor was killed so we had a second treatment in Nov. 2014. I am also confused if it already is dead, how it would shrink, but maybe someone else would know. At last PET scan,Mom’s tumor did not light up and our IR said the CT also appears to have only necrotic tissue. The tumor is smaller since we started, but some of the dead tissue is still there.
I found a site to explain in a bit more depth the basics of SIRT.
Best wishes,
