Hello Niknips, I as so sorry to read about the loss of your dad. It is so hard to lose a parent. He sounds like a kind and caring person.
Like the others said, don’t be afraid to get all your questions answered (you deserve that) and a second opinion. I would ask about the lymph nodes and diagphram involvement.
I understand the stress of a terminal diagnosis on the patient and caregivers. We are living with that right now with my husband in stage 4. I can understand your shock and anger. You need to know what’s happening. I would ask the doctor there about the CA 19-9 marker. Here in Canada they use a different number system than in the US so I would check on what is the normal range.
Don’t forget to look after yourself whilst caring for everyone else.

Dear Jen, I am glad the service went so well. I understand about being hit hard now. As you prepare for a funeral, you are still doing something for your loved one and when it’s over you feel lost and alone. Hold close to your mom and siblings, they will understand the emptiness. The old adage “time heals” is actually true. It takes time, and your sadness will bring happy memories and they will comfort you and cheer you. Your dad is right there with you, helping you along as he always has. Hugs, Nancy

Aloha Karen, We are right here for you as you go through the grieving process. I know what you mean when time can go so slow or so fast and it always seems opposite than what you want! Thinking of you and your family at this time. Nancy

Hi Marcy, So sorry to hear your dear friend is not doing well. I am glad your husband and yourself were able to get a good visit in with him. Cholangiocarcinoma works in mysterious ways. Some people in stage 4 go very quickly while others live fairly normally for years. Some respond to treatment some do not. So much we still need to learn to bring us to a cure for all. You and your husband are in my thoughts. Take care. Nancy

My thoughts are with you Katie. It is a comfort realizing they are still with you everyday isn’t it? I lost my dad 36 years ago and still feel his presence everyday. Glad you are surrounded by a great family and coworkers. Hugs. Nancy

Hi, I searched “recurrence rates of cholangiocarcinoma after resection” and read a few articles. Her odds of 50/50 were pretty consistent with what I read. Are you getting chemo? The “jury is out” on getting chemo after resection but I would look into it and make your own decision. My husband is advanced stage 4 so was not operable. We chose palliative chemo (finished May 18th) and he gets naturopathic support. He has had no growth since February. I highly recommend naturopathic support but realize it’s not for everyone. Will tell you more about it if you are interested. Keep positive, your cups half full! Best wishes. Nancy

Dear Rose, So sorry to hear of your dad’s passing but thankful it was peaceful. Love the story about the pigs coming to say goodbye. Animal instincts often seem more advanced than ours.
May you find comfort in your memories and in knowing that your beloved parents are together again. Hugs. Nancy

Dearest Jen, So saddened to hear of your dad’s passing. Send my condolences to all of your family. Your dad has left you in body but not in spirit; your beautiful relationship will be with you forever. I wish I could lessen the pain for you. We are here. Big hugs from Tamia and I. Love Nancy.

Julie, My husband, who just turned 60, did 8 cycles of Gem/Cis. After 3 cycles he was reevaluated and the cancer had spread. They were going to take him off but I convinced them to try a little longer because his blood work had improved. They continued on that basis and the next 2 scans showed no advancement and his blood work continued to improve. He had his last chemo on May 18th and he goes for a scan on Thursday. Our fingers are crossed. He is advanced stage 4 with mets to liver and bones. Just wanted to let you know that it was after 3 cycles of chemo that showed results. Doug also has naturopathic support, taking daily supplements and Helixor shot (mistletoe) three times a week. Wishing you the best. Nancy
