Jen, Your dad sounds amazing and I can see how much love you have for him. You have made good of an awful situation. Your memories and love of family will continue to carry you through the days and years ahead. My prayers are with you.

Hi Joolz, My husband Doug does not get the flu like symptoms but we were told (and given in writing) that it is a commom side effect of gemcitabine (Gemzar). He does get the extreme thirst and also craves the vitamin C drinks – lol! He cuts up lots of oranges to eat, too! My husband says he has no appetite but I put food in front of him and he eats it. I guess he just doesn’t feel the hunger but once he starts eating it stimulates the appetite.
We are just one cycle ahead of you and he is now feeling a lot better – his best week in a long time. Cat scan in 2 weeks – crossing our fingers!
Sounds like you are making it through this as good as can be expected. :) Take care.

“fightingformom” my thoughts and prayers are with you. You said that your mom is the strongest woman you ever met, well I think that she has bestowed that upon you as well. Your mom will be with you forever and you with her. Take care of yourself.
Susan, I am so glad your husband was able to hold that new grandbaby. Cherished moment. Praying for your family tonight, too.

Kris was so lucky to have you and you her. Yours is a wonderful love story that was put to the ultimate challenge and survived. I have not been on this board long so have just gotten to know Kris through her writings. She was an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Nancy

Hi Lisa, I am glad you enjoyed your stay (mostly) in Revelstoke. Your story reminds me of when we first moved here 21 years ago and rented a house for six months above the train station. Many nights we were startled awake! Needless to say when we bought our house we did not buy near the station or tracks! This town was built on the railway and actually “the last spike” was driven 125 years ago just west of Revelstoke completing the railway to join Canada from east to west. So, we are definitely a railroad town, and now a big ski resort.
I looked past at your posts and you are an inspiration! You have and are doing well! I pray for such good response for my hubby. Take care.

Guess what Jen? On the cover of the Province newspaper today it said that BC is pushing forward to get a family day! Gotta keep up with those Albertans! Have a good day.

Hi Joolz, A lot of things have been accomplished with a great attitude and you have it! You have done well! My husband is on a 2 week on one week off schedule. He is handling it quite well. His liver markers have been coming down. I am glad you are concentrating on and enjoying living!
    Cheers

Sorry Jen, Thanks for keeping me on track Susan, I was typing late last night. I am getting everyone figured out! I do know the Federico’s – not well but I know Crystal’s sister Cassandra well. I work at the high school and got to know her well through school and activities. My husband will also be 60 this year – May 3rd.
It is so nice that Alberta has family day – not here in BC. We have a traditional mother’s day at Martha Creek and of course that is always by Doug’s birthday, so double celebration.
I hope you get a Chinook soon Jen. Looking forward to hearing about your day at the Kananaskis!

Dear Codergirl, I feel for you. I lost my dad when I was 18 and then my mom when I was 41. There is not a day that goes by that they are not in my thoughts, which proves to me that they never really leave. I remember how hard it is to return to a “normal life”. You feel guilty when you feel good and guilty when you feel bad. Be free with your emotions. I hope you have someone close you can talk to and of course there are all the good people on this site who understand so well – too well. You are such a good daughter, your mom is looking down and smiling – she knows she did a good job. Take care of yourself.

Hi Nancy, It saddens me to see the passings on this site, especially those of the young people. They are still kids to me and it is unfair that their lives get cut short. I find some comfort in seeing how much love they were surrounded with. I hope you are finding some peace.
It seems this disease is good at attacking healthy people. My husband was an avid, skier, biker, kayaker; was a healthy weight, didn’t smoke ect. – like so many I read about. Take care.

Hi Susan, Who are the family you have/had here in Revy? I have been here 21 years; could know them. Read a couple of your posts. How are things going for you? Did you get the memorial bench up before the ground froze?
How is that little one doing? My first born turns 29 next week. Where does the time go? I have 3 children but no grandchildren yet – 2 grandpuppies whom I get to babysit along with my own Maggie at times. That keeps me out of trouble! It is supposed to be sunny and cold this week so the trip to Salmon Arm should be uneventful. Take care.

Hi Kathy, I do not know of a current study but lots of studies have been done. Are you looking for a trial study to participate in? Where do you live? I will keep my eyes and ears posted. What feed back did you get from the survivors? They should have some good input!
My husband has stage 4 with mets to his liver and spine. He is doing chemo but we chose naturopathic as well. Here in Canada with our extended health benefits his visits and all testing were paid for but we have to pay for any treatments. He takes a number of supplements. One of his main treatments is an injection of Helixor (mistletoe). It is a natural chemo but also enhances conventional chemo. He also takes DCA – The University of Alberta did an extensive study on DCA. You should search it on the net. It is in the process of getting accepted (conventionally) in Canada, right now it is only available through naturopaths. Like any cancer treatment these are not always cures but have had their great successes (Suzanne Sommers) but they can extend and enhance the quality of life. There are many cancer diets out there, my suggestion is research and decide on what fits you best. Doug and I stay away from red meat and I buy everything organic. We juice fresh fruits and vegetables. No sugars! The naturopath did testing on Doug to see what foods he is sensitive to, so we avoid those. Keep your spirits up and remember a cup is half full and not half empty. I say you have an excellent chance of no recurrence. Take care.
