Thankfully, Tiff I don’t think there are too many. I’ve seen a few in their later 30’s, but I have never met anyone younger than Lauren. I think most that have liver cancer that are young have the one that Liza has. There was a Mom that posted on here a few times last year when I first joined this site. Her daughter was only around 25. Sadly, she passed away fairly quick. So sad. We e-mailed back and forth a few times, but I think it made her too sad. I also think the people that get this when they are young usually have that PSC or colitis to start. Lauren had neither. Did you? How did you two get so unlucky? Take care Miss. Love you.

Lauren gets decadron and aloxi as well. The aloxi works wonders for her. They cut her decadron dosage in half because she didn’t have any trouble with her appetite and it made her really cranky. Wishing your Dad all the best.

    Dear Eileen and mydadrocks,

I am sorry your son and Dad are not doing well with the 5-FU. It must affect everyone differently. My daughter has been on it since Sept. with no problems. I wish it were the same for your two. It must be awful to not feel well. Do they take steroids before chemo? Do they take Compazine, Ativan, or Zofran for nausea. I am sorry I can’t help much. I think Cisplatin was the worst one for my Lauren, but it was nothing compared to what your son and Dad have to deal with. So sorry. Prayers and hugs to both of you.

    Susan,

Hi and welcome to this site. My daughter, Lauren , age 26 is the one with CC. I wanted to know where your husband sees his oncologist. We live in Ohio and travel 3 1/2 hours to University of Michigan Hospital. It is a major Cancer Center and I didn’t know if you knew about it or if you went there. I didn’t see anything in your posts. I would be more than happy to tell you about it if you are interested. The doctors and nurses are awesome and they have been able to help Lauren a lot. I wish you and Peter a miracle and many more happy times together.

    Hi Melissa,

Didn’t Dr. Zalupski talk to your Mom about her cancer? The first time we saw him he told Lauren that her treatment would all be palliative and she would not live past 5 years. I did not like him too much after that visit. But, he didn’t sugar coat anything and he was giving us the facts based on statistics. That sure did wake us up. I remember I was in the room with Lauren and my oldest daughter, Kristen and her husband Bruce. We all busted out crying and Bruce hugged me so tight. Lauren knew then that she had a bad cancer. No denial for her. She doesn’t like to hear bad things about this cancer or doesn’t ever want to read posts on this site. So, I think your Mom knows. She is probably trying to make it easier for you and everyone else. I am happy to say that Lauren has pleasantly surprised Dr. Z and everyone else with her progress and they are now even talking resection. And by the way, we now love Dr. Z. He cares so much for Lauren, but doesn’t want to give false hope. Take care Melissa.

    Update on Lauren

I have been updating on Lauren and how she is doing with the Therasphere procedure on our blog, but for those of you that don’t read it, I will update here.

Lauren is still having pain in her upper left chest. She has a lot more energy though. This past week has been a little more difficult than usual. Thursday was her worst day. She was really nauseous and tired.

Her ONC wanted her to have bloodwork at our local hospital and have the results faxed to him. He was concerned that her liver functions would be very abnormal because she was in pain. I am happy to say that all of her tests came back normal! Her liver is functioning just fine.

Her Oncology Radiologist thinks her pain is coming from one of her tumors that is high in her liver and it is being affected by the radiation. She has seen this happen before.

Lauren is tough and never complains. She only tells me she is in pain if I ask. Since her liver is doing ok, her ONC wants her to come to Michigan on Wed. and will more than likely start back up on chemo. So that is where she stands as of today. I will let you know of any new developments.

    Tiff,

Lauren’s has always been .20 and last time it was .30 and she freaked out. That is about the lowest you can get!! You worry too much. The CA19-9 number is super terrific. Yay!!!! Take care.

I am happy and sad for you, Cindy. Happy that the tumors in your liver are stable. Sad that your tumors on your spine grew. The good news is that radiation has been proven effective for these tumors. I know this will help and you will continue on as the Energizer Bunny that you are!! You always seem so even tempered and calm. How do you do it? Praying as always for positive outcomes.

    Love, -Pam
