    Vicky,

I love your analogy about playing baseball on the football field. That is such a great way to explain how it feels. Our family is also still a team, but we feel like we are also playing baseball on a football field. Not sure what to do, confused, scared because we don’t know how it will turn out. It is normal to be in shock. I don’t know if it ever really goes away. You kind of just learn you have to be strong and learn to deal with things. Make the most of every day and try to stay positive. Easier said than done. I know. I wish you and your family all the best. Please ask any questions you may have. Someone always has an answer.

    Love, -Pam

    Dear Jeff,

I would like to welcome you to this site. So sorry you had to join. There are many treatment options out there. Chemo has helped my daughter feel so much better. She has just had a radioembolization treatment and is recovering from that, but it hasn’t been that bad for her. She was inoperable when she started her treatments. The tumor board is split on their decision for surgery now, but after they see the results of this treatment, they may change their minds. They have many more options. What your sister chooses to do is up to her. I hope you are at a major Cancer Center. It is so important to have a group of doctors that are very knowledgeable about CC. I wish you and your sister all the best. Please ask a lot of questions. We are all here to help each other.

    Dear wzhalb,

I would also like to apologize to you. I was sitting in the waiting room when my daughter was in having her procedure so I was super sensitive when I read your post. I showed my husband your post and he told me I should let you vent because he could see you were scared, angry, panic stricken, etc. I had already written my response and still felt the same when I wrote it. I know now you were scared and just needed to let your frustrations out as we all do. You didn’t want to hear about anybody else’s good fortune when things around you were crumbling. I totally understand that now and hope we can get over this and support one another. I hope you will post what you are feeling no matter what. I have no right to tell you what you can and cannot say. I apologize again for opening my big mouth when I should’ve kept it closed. I wish nothing but the best for you and your husband. I am here for you if you need me.

    Dear Janet,

You sound so much better in your post this time. Like you are coming to terms and accepting how things will be. I think it is so admirable of Pete to donate his body to science. When my oldest daughter was in medical school, she and her classmates were so grateful that selfless people donated themselves so they might learn. They treated the bodies with the utmost respect and held a ceremony at the end of the year to honor them. What a special man your dear husband is. I think you will help many people by continuing to post on this site. God bless you and Pete. You are both in my prayers.

    Hi C,

Wow. The TACE sure sounds like it was a rough road. My daughter, Lauren had 15 cycles of Gem/Cis and 5-FU. She was then switched to just Gemzar and 5-FU. Her oncologist wanted to give her a break from the Cisplatin for a while. It can cause kidney damage. In the future he said he might consider it again or maybe Oxaliplain because it is not supposed to be as rough as Cisplatin. Her oncologist plans on keeping her on chemo as long as it works. She just had a Therasphere procedure last week. She will start back on chemo again next week. She is handling it all very well. About working. I would say you will have to have a very understanding employer to keep a job. With all the doctor appts., chemo appts., and days when you may not feel well, I really don’t know how someone could hold a job unless maybe they worked at home. Have you checked out disability? I wish you all the best.

    Lainy,

I think all med schools are fairly similar. Students go to lecture, work in hospitals, all learn gross anatomy, take tests, and study, study , study. They all have to take the same boards to pass. It is so very competitive to even get in medical school. They only take the brightest and best. I would consider more where they did their residency and if they did a fellowship.

I do not think you are being a snob. You just want great care.

    Hi Amy,

My daughter, Lauren gets swollen feet sometimes. It is usually after going out to dinner or if she sits in a regular chair for a long time like at a party. I always have her drink a lot of water, put her feet up and rest. This usually does the trick. It has only happened a few times and I immediately got scared and asked if her stomach felt swollen. It did not, so it was probably from sitting and food that was too salty. I am sure someone will be able to answer your question. It seems like you are doing everything possible to help your Mom. I hope you find the magic cure.
