Hi MM,
Welcome to the site.
I hope your husbands chemo went well on Monday.
My husband was diagnosed at NY Presb but is being treated in westchester county near our home. We’re neighbors!
Stay connected, I think you’ll find a lot of support here.

peonyMemberDear Jose,
I’ve read all of your posts and am so sorry to hear about the loss of your sister. Please try to find comfort in the fact that she is no longer suffering.
You were a great and wonderful brother to her and i’m sure an equally wonderful uncle to her daughter. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time for you and your family.God Bless

peonyMemberHi Amy, Sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis. I can’t imagine how difficult all of this must be for your family, especially with 5 children to care for as well.
My husband was also diagnosed in NYC with stage IV Intrahepatic cc in Oct. 2010. He initially recieved gemzar and cisplatin, then gemzar and oxaliplatin and now just avastin and 10 days of radiation to mets in his spine. He’s only 48.
Hopefully you’ll be able to manage the side effects which at times seemed worse than the disease.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

peonyMemberHi T,
My husband was diagnosed 10/2010 and was on a similar chemo. He also decided to stop treatment. So January 2012 was his last infusion. It’s been 3 months without chemo (although he is still getting Avastin and Zomeda).
His pain has definately increased. He started with the occasional 5 mg Oxi and is now up to 5mg 5 x per day (which is really not that much). I’m sure pain varies from person to person depending on where the mets are. My husband has mets to the ribs, spine and liver.
There are pain management and palliative care specialist that can work with you to manage the pain.
We are also in the process of seeking that kind of support. I’ll let you know what we learned and I’m sure others will respond.Keep us posted and take care.
I’ll keep you and your husband in my prayers.P.
peonyMemberHi Sweetgreen,
Welcome to the site. Sorry to hear about your husband. I think you’ll find that there are alot of us on the sight that are “younger”. My husband was 47 when first diagnoned in October of 2010. He is stage 4 intrahaptic with mets to the bones. Not eligible for surgery. He was on several different chemos but has recently decided he wants quality of life over quantity. He stopped chemo in January.
We are doing our best to enjoy each other and our life.
Good luck.

peonyMemberHi Tulip,
Our situations are so similar. My husband was also diagnosed in Oct 2010, but at NY Presb. They never mentioned a time frame.
He has chosen to discontinue chemo and is on avastin only. The oncologist indicated that it could prolong his life by 1 year.Has your husband registered with the World Trade Center monitoring study at Bellevue Hospital in NYC? They have been great at providing some of his medications at 0 cost. Of course they will not cover chemo (yet).
Is he still working? We have family in LI and are there often.
If you would like to talk or want to email me seperately, please do.Peony
peonyMemberDear Maria,
I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. Your story really touched me. You and your mom are both lucky that you were able to be together the end. I’m sure your holding her helped her passing and brought comfort to both of you.
I’m in awe of your strengh and pray for you and your family.peonyMemberHi Marion,
He is actually enrolled The World Trade Center Environmental Study at Bellevue hospital in NYC. The doctors that are running the program indicated they had noticed a rise in “rare” cancers since 9/11. However, they didn’t reveal any information about the other types of cancers being treated.
Thanks for the well wishes.

PpeonyMemberHi Austin Family,
So sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis. Coming to grips with this news, I’m sure, is devastating for you and your family. My husband was diagnosed with intrahaptic cc stage 1V 14 months ago (he is only 48). It took months for us to accept the news and settle down and work out a treatment plan. He was diagnosed by Dr. Cherque at NY presp in NYC and is being treated at a local cancer center near our home with input from the NYC team. It was important for us to stay close to home and we knew that the NYC doctors would consult with local team and provide the best possible care and treatment.
The first several months are a roller coaster of emotions and frustrations, sorrow, anger and bitterness but you will get through this and begin the fight against this horrendous cancer.
Stay strong! and check this website often as it will provide answers to many of your questions and much needed emotional support .
All my good wishes and prayers are coming your way …. P
peonyMemberDear BB,
I’m deeply sorry for the loss of your loving wife Susan. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your young daughter.
peonyMemberHi Byron,
I was so shocked to read your post about what you have been thru this past month. I’m glad you are feeling better and continue to fight the fight.
Hang in there and stay strong.
Best,
