Journey of Hope: Day 10

Miles to Date: 3,705

It was a beautiful, cool, cloudless morning when Linda and I departed Rochester, MN, today. Our first official stop was about 275 miles away, fairly close to Milwaukee. But first, we had to make our way to Decorah, IA, so as to continue checking off states leading to the magic number of 48. Along the way, we traveled on a variety of scenic byways, highways, roadways, etc. Upon crossing the Mississippi River bridge between Marquette, IA and Prairie du Chien, WI, we were stopped in construction traffic mid-span. It was a good opportunity to observe the river traffic below. Later in the morning we drove through Mt. Horeb, WI. Mt. Horeb has two claims to fame; being known as the mustard capital of the world, and the troll capital of the world! How’s that for kitsch?!

Linda and I then stopped in Delafield, WI, to see Abbey Sprague and her family. Abbey’s mother, Libby Wolfe, a Cholangiocarcinoma Warrior recently passed away, and it was a bittersweet, yet uplifting visit. Abbey and her family surprised us with painted “Hope” rocks and treats for the road. A special surprise was presented by Libby’s granddaughter Ellie, who is in the 2nd grade. Ellie donated $134.00 of her savings to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation. What a touching and memorable day.
