Like a light in the darkness
Paige Rew with her family
Imagine a flickering candle, its light breaking through the darkness, symbolizing hope that continues even in the darkness. That is what has carried me through my journey with cholangiocarcinoma.
In May 2018, I received my cancer diagnosis of Stage 4 Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma, and I was afraid. I was not just a patient; I am a wife and mother, and suddenly, my future and dreams (including seeing my daughter graduate from high school) seemed out of reach. Online searches heightened this fear until we discovered the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation and connected with the staff. They became my lifeline, a source of hope that illuminated the path ahead. Through their guidance, I found courage and invaluable support. That led me to second opinions, insights on biomarker testing, life-changing surgeries, and groundbreaking clinical trials. Thanks to these connections and treatments, I am here five years later, doing well. I got to see not only my daughter’s high school graduation but college graduation as well!
This November and December, as the world embraces the spirit of giving, I ask you to consider supporting the cholangiocarcinoma community.
You, like a light in the darkness, help instill hope for so many. Your donation during Candles for the Cure will light a virtual candle, not just in honor or memory of a loved one, but also in hope and faith over adversity. And here’s the extraordinary part – this year, every contribution will be matched up to $25,000, further magnifying the power of your giving. Your support will pave the way for vital resources, educational new patient care kits, and groundbreaking cholangiocarcinoma research!
Please join me in lighting a candle of hope this holiday season by making your gift online or returning it with the attached card. I extend my deepest gratitude to you for considering this call to action. Your kindness can rewrite the story for countless individuals and families, offering them a chance at life and cherished moments. Your compassion is the light that guides us – a beacon of hope for the nearly 10,000 people who are diagnosed each year.
With heartfelt thanks and unshakeable hope,
Paige Rew
