Running for Hope
On October 12, Ashley Moore and Amanda Rossing laced up their running shoes to participate in the Tamarack Health WhistleStop Half Marathon for the second time in honor of their lifelong friend, Hope Bretting. The three women went to the same middle and high school in a small town in northern Wisconsin and have been best friends since then. When Hope was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma several years ago, she asked her best friends, who self-describe as “not runners,” to help her check off a bucket list item and run the half marathon with her in 2022. Ashley and Amanda agreed to “Run for Hope” and decided to raise money for cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) research and advocacy in addition to running and raised over $6,400 in 2022.
This fall, Amanda and Ashley decided to run the half marathon again to honor their friend Hope and raise more money for CCF. They gathered their tight-knit community, with hundreds of people donating, purchasing green “We Run for Hope” shirts, and cheering them on during the race. They raised an incredible $25,000, gaining media attention from several local outlets along the way. Ashley, Amanda, and Hope are a beautiful example of community’s power and friendship’s strength.
