ThrashElvania Wrestling Event Raises Funds and Awareness
In a poignant tribute to his late wife, Megan Thrash, Kevin McElvaney, Editor-in-Chief of Pro Wrestling Illustrated, hosted the ThrashElvania wrestling event at the H2O Wrestling Center in Philadelphia. The event coincided with a bustling weekend of professional wrestling in the city, aimed at gathering some of the industry’s top talents while supporting a noble cause.
ThrashElvania wasn’t just another wrestling extravaganza; it was a heartfelt endeavor dedicated to raising funds for the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation in Megan’s memory. The Foundation holds a special place in Kevin’s heart, as it provided invaluable support to Megan during her courageous battle against cholangiocarcinoma.
The $25 ticket cost was donated to CCF, and the event lineup featuring former MLW World champion Alex Kane, Dragongate’s Shun Skywalker, PROGRESS Wrestling Women’s champion Rhio, Alec Price, Shazza McKenzie, and many other luminaries from the wrestling world.
What set ThrashElvania apart was its deeply personal significance. Beloved by all who knew her, Megan touched countless lives with her infectious smile, boundless compassion, and contagious positivity. Throughout her three-year battle with cancer, Megan radiated strength and resilience, inspiring others with her grace and determination.
In his touching letter, Kevin McElvaney reminisces about Megan’s indomitable spirit and selfless devotion to others. Despite facing immense challenges, Megan lived her life purposefully and joyfully, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.
Megan’s aspiration was to celebrate Kevin’s 40th birthday with a joyous gathering. Though she passed away before reaching this milestone, Kevin was determined to honor her memory by organizing ThrashElvania as a testament to her enduring legacy of love and generosity.
Through the event, Kevin channeled the same spirit of resilience and camaraderie that defined Megan’s life. The event raised just over $5,000, and the funds are being directed to critical cholangiocarcinoma research, ensuring that Megan’s legacy continues to influence the lives of others affected by this disease positively.
“It was my honor to host ThrashElvania, both as a fundraiser for CCF and as a tribute to the love I shared with my dear wife Megan,” Kevin said. “She was incredibly grateful to CCF for providing her with crucial information and would be so proud of the $5,000 we raised through this event. Her loved ones and I are confident this money will be put to good use in the fight against cholangiocarcinoma and in reducing the harm this awful disease does to so many brave cancer warriors.”
The event is available on demand via the IWTV service (which charges a monthly subscription fee), and whatever royalties are generated going forward through that website will go directly to CCF.
