As we departed Dickinson, ND, this morning, we were greeted with a windy 35°, and snow showers!
Quite a difference for those in New England talking about how hot it is at 90°. Driving east on I-94 our first stop was to see Salem Sue, the world’s largest Holstein cow! At 38′ high, 50′ long, and 12,000 pounds – all I can say is, it was big! Based on our travel schedule we had to pass by the world’s largest bison, the world’s largest sandhill crane!
Our next stop was in Sanborn, ND, for a fill-up and lunch. Linda, unbeknownst to me, borrowed some of “Sarah’s Spunk” and approached a table of friendly-looking strangers. She explained our journey, took a photo, a video, and made $30 cash for the foundation. I then officially deputized her as an “Ambassador of Hope”!
In the afternoon we made it to our next official stop, in Hope, ND. We found, what I believed to be the largest town gathering in Mic’s Grocery Store. Inside was a group of folks having coffee and their daily meet-up. We shared the purpose of our journey, and they invited us to sit down and join them. We again were able to get a photo and a video exclaiming “Mutations Matter”!!! I was totally impressed by the conversation about one couple that will be celebrating their 69Th wedding anniversary next week, and the story of them purchasing a 1956 Ford Thunderbird; when it was a new vehicle! Wow!
After several more hours, we arrived in Watertown, SD, to rest our weary heads and participate in two different Zoom calls. I never realized how busy retirement would be!!
