    Dear Danielle,

So sorry for all you’ve been through. We live on Long Island as well, and my daughter (age 29) received a second opinion, and ultimately surgery and chemo at Memorial Sloan Kettering. I have heard wonderful things about the entire surgical team in pancrobiliary at Sloan. Her surgeon was Dr. Peter Kingham and her oncologist is Dr. Eileen O’Reilly. There are not enough words to praise these people and our experience at Sloan in general.

Good luck to your father and your entire family,

    Dear Lainy,

I have heard about the suspicions about fish- and yes, Lauren loves sushi and has for years. Everything is feeling kind of suspicious to me about know.

    Thanks for your thoughts,

    Dear Pam,

That is interesting- we mentioned the article to Lauren’s oncologist yesterday and she said she is aware of the research. I remember she needed to have monthly liver function tests while on the medication. I wonder.

    Dear All,

Thanks so much for the good wishes and prayers. We were at Sloan for Lauren’s scan and blood results yesterday and met with her oncologist, Dr. Eileen O’Reilly. We were thrilled to hear that both were clean and we have reached the milestone of one year post resection/whipple. Lauren turned 30 and it was a very happy birthday.

Again, thank you so much for everyone who was so reassuring that the anxiety was to be expected, and the results, when normal, so joyful.

    Gratefully,

    Dear Mary,

My daughter was on Gem/Cis for 4 months. She definitely had side effects and symptoms for about 4 days following treatment, but felt much better on the off week. She traveled several times during those weeks and each was a welcome break.

I hope you can all enjoy your trip,

    Dear Alison,

I just wanted to chime in with my support for you seeking a second (and third) opinion. My daughter was diagnosed at 29 years old this year and received a second opinion at MSK where she had surgery and chemo. I cannot adequately express the level of care and concern she, her husband, and our entire family received from Sloan.

I’ll be thinking of you and your journey,

    Dear Lisa,

I’d like to give you a message of hope- we are still relatively new to all of this, so I don’t know if I’m out of line offering, but today is a good day- so I’ll risk it.

Our daughter, 29 years old, had some jaundice and itching (yes, maddening) and her doctor ordered an MRI on January 2. She had a biopsy on January 7, was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma on January 9, and we went to Sloan for a second opinion where she had a resection on January 16. They decided that because she is so young she would follow with 4 months of CIS/GEM. The whole experience was such a whirlwind that at times I literally felt dizzy. We learned a language we never wanted to learn and had an experience we wouldn’t wish on anyone, but we met extraordinary people along the way. Please seek out the very best hospital you can- people who are very experienced with this cancer.

As for your parents- having our be daughter be so sick was terrible beyond description. For them to go through this a second time- unimaginable. I hope you can find the right words, although I’m not sure they exist.

We don’t know what the future holds, but our beautiful, strong, brave resilient daughter is back home now with her wonderful husband of two years and their puppy. I hope her story helps you to feel optimistic as you navigate your way through this process.

    Best wishes,

    January

Happy Birthday! I love your philosophy. My daughter had her resection in January and we are looking forward to her 30th birthday in November. There was a time when I probably would have staggered a bit thinking of my baby turning 30, but now I couldn’t be more grateful. Have an extra piece of cake!

    Best wishes,

    January
