I have a feeling that in another life you were some great warrior. You deserve all the medals there are from the Olympic Medal to the Purple Heart. Stay strong and know you are in all our hearts!

    OMG! You both have really been through it. We thought ours was bad. They aborted the first Whipple after 4 hours then Teddy got a double e coli infection which almost did him in. 3 weeks after that he had the 8 hour Whipple. He always says why does everything happen twice to him. Elaine, don’t you agree that no one can believe both these guys are still with us? Doctors say that all the time to us. Now we are fighting a right ureter that was destroyed by the return of the cancer. We got the dam spot out with radiation and cyber knife but the ureter is damaged. The Urologist can still put a stent in but down the road he will not be able to due to scar tissue. So it will be back to the nephrostomy tube and bag forever. Like Teddys says though as long as he can golf he will put up with it!

    Hi Elaine, this is Elaine. So sorry to hear that Gary is still having a difficult time from the Whipple. You would almost not even know Teddy had one. About 6 weeks after the second Whipple, Teddy developed a leak and after a CT Scan it was discovered that the tiny leak was at the resection and they hated to go back in again. The doctor asked if he was game to go into rehab for a month on nothing but an IV. They felt that by keeping the area “dry” the hole may heal itself and lo and behold it did. Sure is the pits when surviving the Whipple you then have to go through all this. Boy, these guys are pretty strong, yes? Good luck to you and Gary and please keep us posted.

    Dear Heather and Emilee, I am so very saddened to hear of Lee’s passing. He put up a valiant fight. And you were there to ease his journey all the way. Here is a poem for you and Emilee:

    To my dearest family, some things I’d like to say.
    But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
    I’m writing this from Heaven.
    Here I dwell with God above.
    Here, there’s no more tears of sadness;
    here is just eternal love.
    Please do not be unhappy just because I’m out of sight.
    Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.
    There’s so much that we have to do,
    to help our mortal man.”
    God gave me a list of things,
    that he wished for me to do.
    And foremost on the list,
    was to watch and care for you.
    And when you lie in bed at night,
    the day’s chores put to flight.
    God and I are closest to you…
    in the middle of the night.
    When you think of my life on earth,
    and all those loving years.
    Because you are only human,
    they are bound to bring you tears.
    But do not be afraid to cry:
    it does relieve the pain.
    Remember there would be no flowers,
    unless there was some rain.
    But one thing is for certain, through my life on earth is over.
    I’m closer to you now, than I ever was before.
    There are many rocky roads ahead of you
    and many hills to climb;
    But together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
    It was always my philosophy and I’d like it for you too;
    that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
    If you can help somebody who’s in sorrow and in pain;
    Then you can say to God at night….
    “my day was not in vain.”
    And now I am contented….
    that my life was worthwhile.
    Knowing as I passed along the way
    I made somebody smile.
    So if you meet somebody
    who is sad and feeling low;
    Just lend a hand to pick him up,
    as on your way you go.
    When you’re walking down the street
    and you’ve got me on your mind;
    I’m walking in your footsteps
    only half a step behind.
    And when it’s time for you to go….
    from that body to be free.
    Remember you’re not going…
    your coming here to me.

    Yea! We love that kind of news! Teddy will always have digestive problems and he takes a Prevacid every morning. We will put up with these smaller problems, right? Keep the good news coming!

    Thank-you so much Hans. I understand how Kris wants the truth. I believe in being realistically optimistic. We wish the news had been better but she is so lucky to have a husband like you to help her through this terrible journey, you sound like a fabulous person. Please give her our best wishes, hugs and prayers. Keep us posted when you can.

    I believe you did the right thing to change. I did that with Teddy and never looked back. I always go with my gut feeling. If it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t right. Late once in a while yes, but not for everything all the time. But most important to me would be the Oncologist not knowing the proper things to do. Did you ever ask if he had ever treated this kind of cancer? I think you will feel much better with a new doctor!

    Hi Robyn. My daughter Robin is engaged to a man who was diagnosed 1 1/2 year ago with lymphoma. Besides his Oncologist and chemo he has also been seeing a natural pathic doctor. He gets vitamin C intravenously once a week and he feels that helped him though the chemo with NO side effects and has helped keep the cancer in remission. In fact he just had a scan and he is perfect! He tries to be organic on food and products. His oncologist told him last week that many doctors feel there is something to the Vitamin C approach and so many cancer patients want to try it, but the insurance companies will not pay for it, that doctors are starting to push the insurance companies. I don’t believe you need to go to Mexico as there are many naturalpathics here. Make sure you find one who will work with your Oncologist and vice versa.
